This worm has been growing on my Derasa clam for months, just wondering what it is and if it is harmless?

The clam doesn’t seem bothered, yet.

It is a Vermetid sp. snail. They are snails that feed by sending out strands of mucus which stick to various floating by stuff. It reel it in and eat them. The strand can be unsightly. I never mind them. Harmless.

I’ve never seen one that large before. I intend to leave it alone. I’m surprised my copper and hasn’t picked it out yet, it seems large enough.
