You're going to have to be very thorough on treatment...it's quite an Infestation. But...with elbow grease and diligence you can make it through it. It sucks but it's just another notch on the reefing belt.

Probably going to go full throttle on the flatworms, but also do the interceptor as well. Try to cover all bases

I see spirobid worms, bubble algae and those black dots that I don't know what they are. No AEFW in these pictures but you definitely have them in other pictures.

I pocked at one of the black dots and it started moving. The things that look like eggs were squishy and easy to dislodge

When was the last time you introduced mariculture frags colonies to the tank. A while back black bugs that looked like fw under a scope were coming in. Hope it's not them as they went through the tissue really quick.

This is my first swing at the bat for bad bugs. If I were guessing, I probably had this enter the tank about 6 months ago. I’ve gotten corals from only WWC, TSA and SBB. All three this year, so can’t really say where they are from. I dip everything that goes in the tank, so must have missed some eggs.

I don’t feel like KZ stuff does anything to AEFW I’ve felt that only KCL dipping helps. I have heard of Fluke Tabs dosing can kill them but it will also kill a lot of the softies in your tank. Dipping doesn’t do anything to acro bugs unfortunately. Dr G’s would work but that was basically interceptor in water. The best thing to do is dip and observe for a month in a QT tank.

KCI or Ivermectin dip will obliterate them.

KCI:
1- TBS to 1/G.

3- 1/4 tsp to 946 mL.

1.5- 1/4 tsp to 473 mL.


1% Ivermectin:
0.32mL of 1% Ivermectin per gallon.

0.16mL per 1/2 gallon.

Or approximately 8-9 drops per 473mL.

473mL = 1/8 gallon or 1 Pint.

Dip for 1 hour.

Don't forget your baster to blow them off. Have 2 bucketsbon to dip. One to rinse and baste. Amoxacillin will help them heal.

Sorry OP, such beautiful colonies.

If your rock is all removable, I 2nd the dip route. Then rinse in clean water with GAC before returning to tank.

I've been on the fence about setting up a coral QT, this just cemented my mind.

These were my life saver. Just removed whole thing. Now that all my acros are full I have no more bug worried. Maybe a shroom will go in but not after going to nano first.

The newer aefw isn't like the older aefw. They can rtn a colony overnight and they lay eggs sporadically. It looks like rtn not round patches of bite marks. Not saying it's 100% what you have but it sure does look like them. The scope will tell the tale.

Appreciate all the help and thoughts from everyone. I got back in the hobby three years ago because I love the challenge and love to see things grow. You know the challenges and accept the risk that goes with it. Even if you take every precaution you can, at some point, something is going to sneak in. It’s just part of the challenge. I told myself back then that I wouldn’t worry about the cost. I would just do the best I could knowing the idea of perfection is unobtainable. The first coral I got was a cute little no name hammer coral. Really happy with it. Three weeks after I got it, I found an Aiptasia growing on it. lol! Been fighting that ever since.

The only thing that really upsets me is what to do now. I knew this was only going to be a 4-5 year hobby endeavor. Once my new granddaughter was born I was going to start giving all my livestock away and break down the tank so I could spend more time traveling. Selling stuff was never in the mix for me. I was already collecting names of r2r people in my area that could come and get whatever they wanted. Now, I’m afraid to even give stuff away because I don’t want to trash someone else’s tank. But, this sort of accelerates my thoughts of taking the tank down and moving on to other things on my bucket list.

I’ll let everyone know when I come to my final decision, but I’m pretty much leaning toward getting out of the hobby and moving on to other things.

I like how you think, it's a hobby, easy come, easy go. Not in it for the money, just for the fun of it.

But, having said that, if you break down, I wouldn't destroy the animals. I would sell them.
I would be totally honest with the potential buyers and let them decide to buy or not.
You have beautiful colonies and someone will buy them and rehabilitate them.

Alan, From someone who has seen this tank in person, I am shocked to hear this. It's a beautiful tank/ set up. While I encourage you to keep at it, many come back from this point, I also agree that it shouldn't get in the way of enjoying life. Would be a sad day if that decision is made. -David
