Hello fellow reefer
I have a 115 gallon tank. With no LFS I am left to buying my coral online. I find it very frustrating that vendors post what look like awesome coral using unrealistic lighting. This is a common practice and has, in my case, resulted in being very disappointed when I receive the coral. One recent purchase was so different that I was convinced it wasn’t the same coral. IMO if a vendor, upon request, refuses to provide a picture under true colors then don’t purchase. I am tired of wasting my hard earn money on awful looking coral. Or better let voice your concern and try and push vendors to stop this practice. I did find a vendor who is happy to provide true color photos on request.

I only have have one LFS and they do have a lot of saltwater stuff which is nice, but I agree with you. I think this is causing some unrealistic ideals on what a coral or corals should look like in peoples tanks. I only buy online from vendors that will send or post under “normal” lighting or will send photos in “normal”. Anyway welcome

I was very happy with my sunnyside corals order. Pics accurate to what coral actually look like. Also salt critters posts pics under blue and whiter light. A few more do as well. Another good strategy is to google the coral you are looking at on their site and compare it to other pictures you can find to get more of an average of what it looks like under different light spectrums.

Welcome!

I agree with you 100% so many of these vendors saturate their pictures so much that you could tell how unrealistic their pictures are

FWIW all my LFS have unnecessarily blue lights on their corals too, so I always have in mind what I am looking for and know what it looks like under my 16.5k lights so I am just looking for a healthy specimen and ignoring the 20k lighting.

Welcome! I feel the same way you do. I usually buy WYSIWYG pictures of corals when I want to see exactly what will be shipped. I have also found places like Jason Fox, Tidal Gardens, and others that fairly represent what they are sending.
