Edwing,

There are various threads about this on RC and they always turn into a nasty mess. So here is the breakdown.

Somebody has a frag of OPE's (orange people eaters) that are supposedly the only one of its kind. The problem is that the OPEs grow painfully slow so when he is finally able to frag them they go for big money!

The topic gets heated when people argue the validity of the OPE, saying that it is a morphed RPE. Others just argue that someone charging that much for a polyp is not good for the hobby.

For what it's worth, that one polyp frag has been sold to a friend of mine who does not have a tank and so I am its caretaker.

In person, they are NOT any morph of RPE. I have RPEs under various lighting, and none have come close. The Envy Orange is the same color as the orange you see in Dragon Eyes or Bam Bams.

I'm not saying they're worth the price, but I will say they are indeed unique and very slow growing.

The only pics I have uploaded are from when it was still acclimating and not very bright or solidly colored.

It's the Envy Orange from Reef Envy. I know the pics are not great at all, will get better shots when I get home. It is bright shiny orange, and lacks the black area around the mouth.

Here's some OPEs from UltimateFrags just a couple inches away on the fragbed:

so only one peron has those and it is jonbar?
what's ur adress jonbar? hahahaha jk

A few people around here and RC have them, but they either got them in trades with Juan-Carlos or bought them a couple years ago for $100 or $50 a polyp.

I got a 4 polyp frag of Herman Redds with them that are now up to 7 mature polyps and 2 baby polyps. The Envy Orange polyp has not sprouted a single polyp.

It is good to see that some else has seen the difference. Most people just want to BASH about the price. It is definatley not like OPE... And yes the grow very slow if at all and so rare most have never seen in person.

Here is mine in lower left side of pic....

i'm not doubting anyone specifically, but i've yet to see hardly anyone who claims they have an OPE/Orange Envey morph to post them in a picture side-by-side with an RPE.

its too hard to tell in a stand-alone picture if its really orange/red/pink due to differences from the camera (white balance/saturation etc.)

i know Orange Enveys exist obviously, and I know OPE's exist, i've seen them in person, but they were a very light orange, almost tangarine color. not near the darkness as what most people claim.

for example, here is a picture with PINK people eaters right beside some RPE's....you can see the obvious difference.
