Hello everyone, I’m I really confused and felt let down because of my nyos 160 skimmer. So I was browsing around and noticed that nyos 160 skimmers only use 18w of power. So I was like wow its really efficient. So I checked my apex and was surprised that it was using 52-55w. The skimmer is about 13 months old and I clean it every 4 months. No gunk, no debris nothing. So I emailed them and said that i need to buy a new pump which is kinda let down for a high end skimmer that fails quickly.

I wonder how many calls or emails they get on this. I’m guess not enough or to many different tech guys that they don’t see them problem.
Maybe try and email them back saying that it’s a common problem and for them to check new ones.
Maybe it’s 18 watts in Europe

Yeah it’s pretty messed up. Reef octopus is three or four times off as well.

I wonder why don’t put the actual power consumption on thier ads. I know that it reads 18w out of water BUT who uses a protein skimmer without water? Lol

All four of my reef octopus skimmers seem to be in line with the labels. One of them is over five years old and are still pretty much dead on.

To OP, 50+ watt seems a little extreme. My super reef octopus 6000 external which is rated for 450 gallon heavy load tank is only pulling 57 watt.

Yeah that is what I’m thinking plus both knobs of the nyos are almost closed and still it does not overflow. Maybe its a bad motor. If it is i can only say wow! Less than 18 months and its already dead.
