I am undecided on which budget light I should go with. I’ve heard positive reviews about both. I believe the noops only have 40 leds while the a8se has 100. Is that true? If so that would definitely be a convincing argument for the a8se. If anyone has any other suggestions for budget lights (Less than 200) please tell me.

I should add that my tank is 48x20x22 and I plan to keep sps as well as lps and zoas. Thanks

The latest noops is 140W where the A8se is 215W so there is a huge difference in power.

For coverage the A8se beats the noops hands down, but for penetration or getting those par numbers the noops would win. The A8 series of lights copy Radion's G5 layout and spread so it has a 120+ beam angle which gives a very even coverage over a wide area and you will have very even par numbers top to bottom. The noops on the other hand uses a lens in front of the LED cluster which focus the light into the tank at around 90-100 I think which is good for penetrating a deep tank and provide good par numbers up top, but would create harsh shadows on your rock work and diso ball effect in the tank if thats something you are not a fan of.

Light spillage for the A8 lights would also be INSANE. Be prepared to be blinded by the light if you have the tank in a living room area and you are sitting down next to it. The noops with its focused lens would have less of that issue. Since the A8 are pretty much a copy of the Radion's G5/G6, you could use the optional high intensity lens kit from Ecotech which turns the spread from 120 to around 70-80 degrees to focus the more light into the tank instead of spilling it everywhere. They will have a ton of lThey arent overly expensive at around $30 each but its an additional thing you have to buy. You could also buy shrouds to block any light spillage as well.

For your tank, I would either get 3 noops or 2 A8 for coverage. my tank is almost exactly the same dimension as yours (1200x500x550mm) and I have 2 X30 (blue version of the A8) with the high intensity lens kit mounted 10" above my tank.

I think you are mistaking discoball with shimmer. Discoball is the separation of colors.
