Hi all, I have a Red Sea Reefer Max, and we are seriously challenged with respect to maintaining the sump levels. It seems as if we look at it wrong, and then the sump is too low. We have ATO in place, but does anyone have any advice about how to ensure that sump levels are consistent despite maintenance?

If you are doing maintenance, turn off the ATO, do the maintenance and top it back up to the "full" sensor level with saltwater before turning the ATO back on.

Let the ato keep the system level. If you remove water from the system you should shut off the ato while you’re working and replace the salt water before you turn the ato back on.

When I do water change I turn off my return pump. The return will backflow until the siphon breaks. Once that is done I mark the tank's water level with a dry erase maker. This way I know exactly how much water to replace after doing a water change.

When I'm done the level in the sump goes back to where it was before I started.

Does this help?

Do you have your diaphragm opened to far for your return pump? How’s the display level when you’re looking low in the sump?
