I would like to start this thread by thanking the Reef 2 Reef team. I was able to meet them at the New York Reefapalooza event over this weekend and I cant praise them enough. They truly are a great group of people and I just wanted to say thank you for everything you do for this hobby. This forum has helped me tremendously with reef keeping and the success of many reefs to come will be able to attribute that success to the wealth of knowedge that has been collected right here. That being said my wife was the lucky winner of the Red Sea Nano tank give away and the only way I could think of to give back to this team is to start of thread of that very tank. Its only day one but that tank is mostly assembled and in the coming weeks and months I will post periodic updates on that tank build.

I've been trying to post this for a week now but this tank is finally cycling! I did make a couple changes/ enhancements to this tank to minimize maintenance on it. I added a small UV under the filter sock to hopefully help keep algae down and i also got rid of the OEM top off and added a top off plumbed right into my house. Yes i know that can be risky but I have a lot of redundancy to help mitigate a potential flood disaster. I have the main supply on a normally closed valve on a timer. it only allows the top off system to run twice a day for 30 minutes at a time. I have the supply than going through a normally open valve at the tank operated by a float switch so if the float valve fails this float switch should shut the water supply off to the tank. I have both this tank and my larger redsea 250 hooked up like this.

I'm curious about the UV you have running under the filter sock. Is it just the standard type where water is pumped into and out of a lamp housing? Or something else? I am thinking of adding UV and looking for the simplest approach.

SainSmart XpertMatic Aquarium Clean Light, 5W UV Sanitizer Submersible Light with Timer, Waterproof Clean Lamp Aquarium Water Clean Green Clear for Fish Tank, Pond, Swimming Pool

i ordered this above off of amazon, it was cheap enough to gamble on. If it doesnt perform well im not out a ton of money. it was about the only light i could find that didnt have to go into the display and wasnt an exposed light that would fit in the back
