I have been extremely patient going through my cycle and it’s been quite fun but I’m tired of it! Does anyone know when the different types of algae will start to disappear? my tank is 6-8 months old and my nitrate is sub 5 ppm. Also, how can I control green hair? it’s getting bad..

It’s going to look that way for two years or so, till coralline kicks in

ive known that reef since before it was cycled, you sure have ran it well

that doesn’t look bad at all it’s just right

When doing water changes I hold the toothbrush at the end of the gravel vacuum and suck it up and I brush it off.

I have seeded a rock of coralline but I plan on getting arc reef coralline in a bottle because I heard that it has actual coralline spores.
If you still have that rock scratch some of the coraline so it gets into the water. It will spread where ever those particles land.

Trochus snails are good. Kole tangs are fantastic but your tank looks a tad too small. Corals shading the rock and adding stuff you can’t get in a bottle, are probably your best bet.
Will get some trochus snails next time at the LFS. Unfortunately I only have a 32g but I would LOVE a kole tang.. Could I just move my rock slightly over and shade it? thank you for the suggestions!

Could I speed up the coralline growth with Arc Reef, my water params are pretty stable.. & thank you! I take pride in cleaning it everyday and keeping up with my weekly water changes!

I think ARC Coralline is worth shot. My tank is just shy of a year. I put a bottle of ARC in after it was through it's cycle. I still have algae, but I'm getting pretty good coralline growth. Can't see it on the rocks too much in the pic, but you can on the back wall.

I see you are a fellow euphyllia addict! I really want to pick up a bottle because I’ve heard such good things. Thank you for the evidence.

Wish I had started dipping corals earlier.. The green hair came from a frag of birds nest.
Check out this product (Fauna Marin Red X algae contro), it may help. I have it just in case I ever had a bad case of any algae. I have dinos now but is no too bad. How old are your hammers? I just got one and I just wonder what its the growth rate lol. Also, how much light are you putting on them? My hammer is small still

If you have any coralline on any of the snails you have just scrape it off and crush it up and squirt it in front of a power head, it’ll spread in no time..no need to waste money on additives for it.
I thought spending money was what this was all about :p
