New Redsea 300 Skimmer overflowing

Hey guys, I have a brand new red sea reefer 200 that's on day 15 of its cycle. I just received my new red sea 300 skimmer yesterday. It is overflowing badly ( I attached a picture) I made sure I put everything together correctly, I have the water level correct according to the "water level" sticker on the skimmer. I have the knob turned all the way in the minus position and its overflowing like crazy with white bubbles. It has about 2inches of bubbles built up in my sump after running it for 20 minutes or so. I'm not sure what I did wrong. Any suggestions?

You did nothing wrong. All new skimmers do this.
Let it run until it stops.

Adjust the air water mixture until it stops then slowly adjust to where you want it after a few days

Plus one for this. New tank, new skimmer. Remove the top and just let it flow. May take a day, may take a week. It will eventually stop.

Thanks for your answer. ill let it run like this until it breaks in. Why do they overflow like this? All new skimmers do this?

Some say yes. Personally, I think it has more to do with tanks that haven’t matured yet….but I know someone will tell me I’m wrong. I’ve put new skimmers in old tanks and only get a few minutes of overflow if that. I’ve also cleaned my skimmer top to bottom with vinegar or citric acid, which should have removed any so called bio film, and placed it back in the tank with zero overflow. Yet it’s super common for people with a new tank, new skimmer to ask this same question…..including myself several years ago.

Oh, also when you say run like this, do you mean with the cup on? I would remove the cup for the time being. I say this as a wet mist will spray out of the vents on the top of the cup otherwise. This will create condensation on pretty much everything else in the sump. Which isn’t horrible, but it can be messy and can ruin electronics in the cabinet. With the cup of, it mainly just flows over and doesn’t make such a mess
