Hello all , I just got the red sea max xl . Just wondering about the heater position . I put it btw the auto top of and the skimmer area. But there are wires for the skimmer there also and the rubber tubing from the skimmer pump to the skimmer head thing . Will the heater mess melt or damage the wires and tubing ?

You don’t want it in that tight space. Need more open water and flow to get even heating. Can you just put it in the same chamber as your skimmer? It doesn’t need to be vertical unless it is one of those cheap ones that aren’t fully submersible, you can lay on its side.

Edit: just realized this is an AIO and not looking at a sump. I still think it looks too tight in there. And yes it could melt some things if touching.

Thank for the reply. Yah the heater is kinda long and there no way I can put it horizontally. And it is the skimmer chamber hahah.maybe I move the skimmer a bit closer to the aio and put it in the other side of the chamber . Thought it will have a designated area for the heater >.< but it’s tight as is with all the equipment it already comes with. I’ll check it out when I get home .ty

I have 2 in the redsea nano peninsula—an Eheim 100W under the ATO vertically and a cheaper brand on the other side under the filter sock lying down. The Eheim barely fits and if it were bigger than 100W definitely wouldn’t fit. Other brands fit better. We do check to make sure it isn’t jostling the ATO—we found there are black stickers covering the side view of the sump so we peeled those off and now can see both heaters. Not sure if yours would have the same. For now though if you’re having to readjust sometimes, no problem to put it in the display awhile.

What I want to know is where do you put carbon. There is a chamber for it under the return pump, but there is no top so the bag can just float around and that was jostling the ATO >=( This tank is not designed as well as we were expecting tbh.

I still didn’t put the carbon or any water in it yet.i think the carbon socket is next to the return pump.i think the best way is to move the skimmer abit to where the heater is now and put the heater on the other side next to the filter sock ,I’ll check when I get home , or if there is a chance to lie it on the bottom horizontaly under the sock and skimmer . Was looking at the blueprint of the back of the tank seems there might be space ,I thought the skimmer goes all the ways down to the bottom of the tank so was worried the heater might mess the pump up,will cnun couple hr hehe Ty :)

I have the older Red Sea max nano aio. I had to jam my carbon sock into the filter sock area. This was the only way I could get carbon in my tank.
