Update on light setup

This is going to be a SPS heavy tank - So the final setup is

2 Reef brites - hybrid fixtures - 48 inch
Each reef brite will have

2x KZ Coral Light II New Generation T5 Lamp and 2 X ATI True Actinic 03
2X AI Hydra 64
1 Hydra 32

Glad to see that your original plan got updated. As I started browsing this thread the first thing I was thinking of that was going to be insufficient for lighting.

What you chose set up will be much better! It is very similar to what I am running.

Thanks - Yeah I was always under suspicion about the light - FInally decided to add 2X HD64's to the setup and feeling comfortable.

@cilyjr Any recommendation on light setup you are using ?

Duration of T5
and setup for hydra's ?

Also please feel free to let me know if anything you would recommend to improve as its better to take care of it now.

I personally don't run any antinic bulbs in my t5 fixtures. Reason being my main purpose for using t5 at all is to get that extra non-point source light.
You never see people using only LEDs The under parts of their corals are all dead skeleton.
That didn't happen in the old days when we were using metal halides. Although it's also a point source it's got a much heavier spread.
I think the t5 LED combo really hits the spot and is friendly on the pocket for us in California, with electricity being as expensive as it is here.

I'm using my LED fixtures throughout the day and my t5s only come on for 5 hrs. In the middle of the day.
I am using the coral plus and blue plus bulbs from ATI

okie for some reason I was always under the impression Actinic promotes growth ? (pardon as like everyone still learning).

Also do you have a picture of your tank and if there is a preset (or your config file) for Hydra's if you are using them ? I am not very fond of Blue lights so would like to get some inspiration from fellow halide look reef tank.

Basically I am running the AB Plus program only I put some peaks and valleys into it kind of similar to what. David Saxby did to his program.
The coral plus blue plus and purple plus bulbs are what they used to use with the original a/b Plus lighting. When it was first set up it was all t5.

My tank is larger in gallons but shorter in length as it's only 5' 7" long. I ended up going with 8 hydra 32s and 4 t5 bulbs. It has been working well.

I ditched metal halide when I moved to California.
The 320 has only been running for 9 months. Before that I was using a 120.
That's why I went with this tank because it's not as long and there's more depth front to back.

Let's see if I can upload the template with the Mobius system....
Edit. I'm not sure how to upload it to this forum. I'll take a picture of what it looks like so you can get an idea to see if you're even interested in it. I wouldn't be offended if you weren't

I like it - Mostly i love to get the lunar cycle effect on the reef - I only wished they had a web app for more minute edit of the schedule (iphone app feels cumbersome).

If you can share( Will PM you my email address) I will appreciate it.

The cool thing about the lunar function is you can set the lights to whatever you want and then turn on the lunar function in Mobius and it adjusts to whatever the lunar schedule is. Meaning if it's a full moon outside then there is also one over the tank.
I suppose in theory it's supposed to help with breeding and spawning

And so the cycle begins, electrical panel box is cleaned up and all controller hung. I am still using manual ato until I can start moving the other tank.

New heater is installed - I went with hygger 500W heater. Both brs heaters were leaking static current in the tank.

It looks like you're setting this tank up in your garage. You are in the LA area? What are you going to do for cooling purposes in the summer?
