It's been a while since I've made any updates, but I'm still here and the tank is still going. After my last post I was looking at adding more friends to the tank. Umm.. I haven't done that yet.. lol. The Yellow Clown Goby hasn't been in stock so I had some time to do more research. And I hit a couple hurdles.
I realized that I needed to upgrade my QT/Observation tank to become more of a stable system to give the new friends a better chance of success. So I quickly identified some aspects that needed my attention. I have added an Inkbird temp controller and retired the cheap digital thermometer that I was using. I then added a Tunez 3152 ATO so I could stop manually filling the tank. And the last upgrade was a Nicrew light controller which turns on the lights at a certain time and slowly ramps it up over 30mins. I can also control the intensity which I have set at 60% only because it's a little more pleasing to the eye. I am happy to report that after all that, I am confident on adding more friends to the small 5G tank. more on that later.
On the main tank, things have been pretty status quo. I also added the Nicrew light controller to this tank and I really like the lowered intensity and I think it's better for Kevin the Clown to have the light ramp up slowly over 30mins instead of what I was doing before (lights were plugged into a smart outlet that would turn on/off the lights on a schedule). My water change schedule has changed and I'm doing them once a month now (30%). This was mainly due to laziness but it's working well and everyone is happy. All my levels are pretty much staying the same so I was worried only a little bit at the beginning. It still makes me nervous but it's working well.
The latest and greatest is that I recently bought a Seneye and I currently have it in the tank. So far I like it. It's a bit confusing, and the setup is a bit ambiguous, but it was relatively painless. I like being able to see the different stats in the tank remotely in real time. And one big relief is the O2 sensor, I know that it "should" be fine but knowing is better. I kind of tested the PAR meter, and it works. I am planning on "mapping" out the PAR in the tank in all the areas where I want to place coral and then maybe upgrade the lights if I need to.
Here is the tank as of right now, and not much has changed. At least not in the front end, everything I' been doing so far has been upgrading the back end and keeping things going well.
Next step? I think I'm going to add 3 sexy shrimp and either some snails or some hermit crabs. I haven't decided yet. The Yellow Clown Goby would be nice but I have to figure out the feeding. I currently feed Kevin once a day, 1/3rd of a mysis shrimp cube. And from my research, the Yellow Clown Goby needs at least 2 feedings a day. I have an automatic feeder but I have my doubts that the fish would eat as much as they need using the pellets. I worry about Kevin, he has a weird way of eating. He sits in that corner of the tank and will wait for the food to float past him and he'll pick and choose what he wants. The pellets tend to float up top and by the time they sink, unless they sink directly in front of him, he generally doesn't go for it. So its a crapshoot when using pellets, I'd say 50% of them go straight into the overflow. So like I said, I have to figure something out.
Thanks for following along and I welcome and tips and advice
