Hey all,

I recently got a nero 3 for my waterbox20 cube. It is placed on the back panel to the far right about halfway down. I currently have the setting at random flow up to 25%. I had some questions as this is my first time using a powerhead.

- Thoughts on my positioning of the powerhead? I understand this this has a lot to do with livestock and rockwork (my rocks my a basic arch.) I basically just looked at peopples photos and this seemed to be a popular spot to place it.

- I was hoping some of you might share how you have set your neros.

- Thoughts on the dry side of the magnet being submerged? I have read AI did not design the mag to be submerged however they said no issues have been reported. And BRS actually stated they had no issues as well.

Thanks for your help!

I have 4 one is in a sump. But these 3 neros are all on the back wall (i will be adding a 4th) so I can clean the glass better but If it wasnt a cleaning issue I would have 2 on the sides.

Looks great man. I do hope to add another soon. But for the moment i only have one. Any suggestions on settings for my nero?
Not really only because you will need to determine what works for your system .. but I can say in mine I have them running in pulse, from right to left 180° apart from each other (its my version of a rolling wave)I will show the app but the 100% is in my other tanks sump.

Hi, I have 3 Nero 5’s on the back wall and on the centre one the magnet dry magnet is underwater in the weir on a rsr 250.

I run 30% max 1% min on random with a medium variance and an hour of 70% constant speed in the early morning when the lights are out. I find if I run any more the 30% during the day it’s just to much for my gonis

Awesome tank. Can i ask the reasoning for the hour of increased speed in the morning?

About 1/3 of the way down is more standard than 1/2 way. You can place it higher until it starts to suck air or splash water over the side.

I added that time to “storm” or stir up any detritus when my Corals are closed up and will not damage them. Works really well.
Yeah on my other tank I do this with mp40's for 5 min @100% a few times a day, it makes a big difference in my B.B tank.

This makes sense. Do you have a recommendation as to what speed to increase my nero to for my "storm" i feel 70 might be to intense for my 20 cube

Do you like your NERO 3's? Have you had any mechanical issues with them?

@Capoe126 I've also got a 20G AIO. My early morning "storm" cycle is set at 45%. Visually in my tank this is just on the verge of making sand particles move off the bottom. It does a good job of moving a lot detritus off the rocks.

Also, here is another thread about Nero 3's in 20 gallon tanks:

Hey sry I didn't see this, but yes I've had one new in box not spin and contacted AI they just had me clean it which is funny, but after "cleaning " it I got it to spin, i stopped it a couple days later and upon restarting it once again, it would try to spin but it wouldn't then went red on the controller. Once again I "cleaned" it put it back together and it worked, well this happened a couple of times then it went a few weeks without stopping and then and ever since has not had the issue again, im not sure if it's a new pump thing but I haven't had this with any other ones unless they are blocked or encrusted with coraline, but now I own 5 of them so yes I still recommend these pumps they are good small footprint wave makers.

I have two Nero 3 on a 50g cube at the back panel. I also use a 180° phased pulse where each is on for 4 seconds and the other turns off as soon as alternate turns on. They put out good flow and my torches seem happy. I think the only thing I'm not crazy about is the noise levels past 70% or so - turns into a loud hum. But I like how low profile they are and the included guards are small enough to prevent disaster but still allow good throughput.

Imo they are easy to maintain - basically 3 parts and very easy to disassemble

Ended up buying a Nero 3 and look forward to setting it up once the tank is unboxed. Still a few weeks yet until I can get everything wet, but am getting more and more excited!
