I'm flying out and will be planting this Friday if everything arrives as expected - I'd like the plants to be established when I move the freshwater fish over in May. My husband (hope this doesn't alienate anyone) is working at the VA hospital in AZ and watching over the aquariums - not his passion, but he's totally on board until I can move out.

I'm just getting caught up again! How stressful to have to keep up with multiple tanks in multiple locations, but great that you have the spousal support to take care of the new tanks (I was wondering how you were able to cycle and take care of the tanks in AZ while in OH!).

Liking the planted tank! Cannot wait to see how it looks when it fills in.

Keep the great updates coming!

Thank you @KC V. It has been a challenge to orchestrate the AZ tanks from a distance! My biggest concern on the planted tank is algae, since I won’t be here to keep watch and take quick action if it starts to take hold - I put in 4 amano and 5 cherry shrimp yesterday as an algae cleanup crew; they will have to be responsible for preventative maintenance for the next few weeks.

Also got a fairy wrasse to keep the Midas blenny company until the Cleveland fish come to town.

Getting up to 95 outside; a reminder that the reef will eventually need the chiller, so that is now operational

Apparently YouTube was able to recognize the few seconds of music playing in the background and blocked it.

Those dirty rats!

C-ray 200 PAR update

I was going to take readings this week, but my light stopped connecting to the router so I can’t change programs. Tried every combination of button presses and cycled power to no avail. Called and contacted support via the web site, but they said they will have to look into it and get back at a later date. Once this issue is resolved I’ll post results.

[Facepalm] That's the way it always goes. Good luck and hopefully they get back to you soon for the light.

50% water change yesterday

Already looks like some growth is taking off!

Yeah, both lights were connected to the router, but the reef light fell off the network and will not reconnect. Freshwater light is working fine.

Thanks @KC V. The plants are showing growth in just a few days

Fatty brisket! My mouth is watering thinking about fatty brisket now. So, thanks for that!

Sounds like a good spot to open a restaurant across the street called, "Little Mister BBQ." Lol

lol! @crusso1993 you certainly have a gift with your replies :)

Nano Cube 28g Vibrant updates:

4 days in:
  • no noticeable change in green hair algae
  • Nitrate and Phosphate at normal levels
6 days in:
  • skimmer has stopped producing skimmate
  • Nitrate at 0.25 (low end of normal)
  • Phosphate at 0.02 (low end of normal)
  • no noticeable change in GHA
  • increase in cyano on the Monte

14 days in:
  • increase in cyano on the Monte
  • no reduction in GHA
  • skimmate production has resumed
  • Nitrate - 0.75 (high side of normal)
  • Phosphate - 0.04 (normal)

EDIT:
4/10: Day 15 - added 3 ml Vibrant (second dose)
* Emerald crab passed away: no evidence this is due to Vibrant, just a note
* Water very clear a couple hours after dosing

4/12
  • Water is very clear; I believe Vibrant is a contributing factor
  • Nitrate: 0.75
  • Phosphate: 0.02
  • No significant signs of GHA dying off
  • Purchased Reef Flux Fluconazole - will treat the water late next week. My goal is to have little or no algae when I move the tank residents cross country to their new 65g setup
4/14
  • Nitrate 1+ (all nitrate and phosphate tested via Red Sea Pro kit)
  • Phosphate .04
  • No noticeable die off in the GHA (I have hand harvested what I can)
4/17
  • No visible signs of GHA die back
  • Added 3 capsules of Reef Flux (removed carbon and GFO, turned off skimmer)
4/20
  • Glass is definitely staying clean longer
  • Hair algae is less vigorous; can't say it's dying back for sure, but it doesn't seem to be growing back after I manually remove it. I did add the Reef Flux 3 days ago, but that product indicates it is not effective against hair algae...
4/23
  • Hair algae is greatly reduced (can't say if it is from Vibrant, Reef Flux, or both)
  • Nitrate 1.0, Phosphate 0.04
  • Dosed 3 ml of Vibrant (third dose)
