My iPad is not recognizing/connecting to my Apple Smart Keyboard. I’ve tried turning iPad off. Disconnecting & reconnecting keyboard. But it keeps giving me the touch screen keyboard. Argh...

I type quickly & need my Smart Keyboard. Any suggestions? Do the smart keyboards just fail after one year?

Thx

not sure what kind of keyboard but the one I have with my iPad you have to charge it. Its not often probably once every 2-3 months. Check to see if you have a port where you can charge it

Some common issues
Make sure there is no debris on the connector.
Disconnect the key board / reboot the ipad / re-connect the key board
Also force restart the iPad. To do this, just press the home button and the power button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. Release them when the Apple Logo appears on the screen.
Did you do a iOS update and then have the issue?
Does your software key board disappear and re-appear when you plug in the keyboard?
Also i think apple has a 3 year ( from date of purchase) free repair on these keyboard issues. You will need to contact an Apple Store Genius Bar, or an authorized repair facility.

Hi. Yes I had tried disconnect/reconnect;force restart; checking for debris. etc.
It did not start after update.
Keyboard doesn’t disappear & reappear when plug in kb.
Thanks so much for all these suggestions. I will take it to my local Apple store where I purchased both iPad & keyboard.
PS you were much more helpful than Apple support center - lol!
