Hi Everyone!!

I have embarked on a monster upgrade project. I am building a new reef in my home, an 800 gallon peninsula tank. It will have dimensions of 12 feet long 3 feet deep, 3 feet wide. It will be on a custom wood stand which will be covered in a stone/tile type material.

The canopy will house my (6) Radion G6 lights and the power supplies will go on top as well, at the end (on the wall side) there will be a power strip which will plug into the wall right next to it.

The canopy I am thinking of is flat panel, shaker type, contemporary look. Open at the top to allow venting. Probably no more then 6-7 inches tall. Will be resting about 9-10 inches above the water level/top of the aquarium. The bottom of the canopy and the bottom of the lights will be flush.

I think I need this canopy (which will be 12 x 3 feet) to be movable up and down in case one needs access. Ideally it would be motorized. Anyone know of a way I can do this ? How should I suspend the canopy from the ceiling? What cables/motor should I use? Would love any ideas or tips.

Yes. will float above. 9-10 inches above. Seen ideas using linear actuators but not sure how to implement this suspended from the ceiling.

You will want to locate studs at ceiling and place 2x4" at those studs them incorporate a cable/pulley system in which will allow you to raise and lower as needed. With lights in the canopy, assure a tight secure install to assure its secured to the ceiling

Look into a garage elevator type of system. Repurposing an existing proven design and equipment would be my go to move here
