Hey fam.

So yesterday I finished cycling and salinity had dropped so did a small change to even out. Salinity evened out at 1.025.

Noticed towards night tank was getting cloudy.

Prior to this I had silt break out that had occurred because I didn’t rinse sand is what everyone said on here, so clean everything off and rinsed filter floss on media basket and filter sock on opposite side. (I have a 32 gallon Fiji AIO) anyways so after a day it was crystal clear. Nowwww forward to yesterday and today it’s cloudy and I performed about a 50% water change and again rinsed media in back.

I did notice that the back rear chambers are the same about of cloudiness as main display? Could it be a silt break out again? Should I give it time? I did take out a carbon elite about a week in because I was told on here I shouldn’t have it in while cycling?

Can someone please help out with what I should do.

Please try answer all questions and be specific

So is the sand getting blown around by the return or a power head?

Unless something is stirring it up I don’t think this is a sand issue.

Can you tell me how you determined you were finished cycling?
No sand is not, maybe a little. It’s definitely silt. Same consistency as what I had before before I cleaned and it cleared and ammonia and nitrite 0

What test are you using?
How did you cycle your tank?

I wouldn’t do a water change.

Do you know what micron your filter sock is?

I didn’t rinse my sand when I set up my tank (too much work and it’s a lot of sand in a 75) and I never had this issue. What’s par for the course is it settles after a day (or you get a nifty filter thing you drop in the tank and it goes away in a few hours).

What kind of sand did you use?

Red Sea and cycled fish less with ammonia and tims

And true don’t know the micron

I never rinsed either. I’ve had tanks over 10 years

And carib sea Fiji pink

Have you tested nitrates and phosphates?

Maybe look into a really high micron filter and throw that in there to try and catch all the stuff.

I know you say it silt but I just don’t know?

It's either sand dust or bacterial bloom. It's most likely a bacterial bloom and will clear in its own. Water changes typically do not help in this case. If you have livestock, increasing surface agitation to combat low o2 is recommended. Adding a UV sterilizer is another option.

I’ll test shortly for sure. Nah I appreciate anything. Trust me I had a bad outbreak. Also a friend of mine said it could be the pistol shrimp moving sand to make it burrow. All the fine sand

Ok 2 things

I saw your other thread in regards to this but from earlier in the cycle

1 - I do think that the “silt” as being picked up by some sort of bacteria bloom - at least that’s my best guess

2- I’m not the only one who told you to find a high micron filter but this person knew what the filter thing you put in the tank was called!!!

I would recommend to leave the tank alone for 6 months besides top off water and maybe small water changes once a month. Silt is the least of concerns.

No problem doing this and trust me I get this is a slow process. But why 6 months and why is silt least of concerns
