Hi everyone,

I’m having some issues with setting up a wave maker in my fish tank and could really use some advice.

I want to add a wave maker to my tank, but I’m looking for one that isn’t too powerful. My tank is a Fluval Evo 13.5 gallon, and it’s filled with quite a bit of live rock which is quite tall.

I bought a Jebao MOW-3 wave maker (2-6 watts) and set it to the lowest setting. However, when I put it in my tank, it turned the whole tank into a washing machine. It’s way too powerful, so I stopped using it.

Now, I’m noticing that there are many areas in the tank where the water flow isn’t adequate. I mainly want to create some flow for my Torch Coral and some SPS corals at the top of the tank. Currently, I’m using a Sicce Syncra Silent 1.0 pump (251gph, 5ft head) which provides some flow, but I’m worried it might not be enough. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe on the placement of the wave maker or recommendations for a different model that would be more suitable?

Here are some pictures of my tank for reference.

There’s a wave maker I had for my old 13.5 fluval called hygger wave maker from Amazon for $50 it’s really nice full controls and looks nice worked very well had very adequate flow but not too much.

Hydor Koralia Nano Aquarium Circulation 240 GPH. I have 2 of these in my 10 gallon frag tank.

Is that pump your return pump I dont see a power head. If so you can add one more power head. Just to keep up with coral growth.

Have you considered swapping out the dual 1/4 inch stock return nozzles for a single 1/2in rfg. You may not need one after making that change. I used a hygger mini with great success for over a year before my son poured milk on the dc controller for it.

I'm just setting up a fluval 13.5, also using a sicce silent 1.0 and as I had it I put a sicce nano voyager powerhead, it's ac and 1000 lph, I don't have coral in the tank but did ghost feed a health pinch of flake food and there seemed to be ok flow, the powerhead is doing the surface agitation

This is a good option if you don’t want controllable patterns or speed. Some do some dont, up to you. A solid choice though

If you want a dc controllable, this is the smallest I know of. It’s 530gph but if you run it at 40% it’s a match for the hydor 240. You could dial down more if you wanted also, and it’s a little more compact, but more money
