Hey everyone, I have a 300 gallon mixed reef system of tanks! Tons of coral doing well: acros, montis, sea fans, clam, soft coral, milliapora, Xenia…. Long story short my coral is doing fantastic and I don’t use a skimmer, only form of filtration is a refugium.
For the life of me I cannot make flower pot corals happy and I want to know why. Any thoughts or tips? I’ve tried them in low flow and high flow just mostly lower lighting, is there something I’m missing?

I have a number of Gonis, and they all are doing amazing. One is the size of a softball!
I keep them on the bottom, but off the sand. I recommend attaching them to some rock rubble to keep them raised off the bottom a bit.
They like low/medium flow. I don't do anything special for them: just normal recommended tank parameters. I don't directly feed them either.
Just this morning, one of my clowns decided to use my pink Goni as a host.

Are you getting frags from a captive colony? It used to be that no one could keep those wild collected ones alive, but people are having more success from frags now.

Gonis need some po4 and no3 in the water. Not sure what yours might be. I also add manganese and iron as fertilizer as well. Up to I’m around 40 last count I think.

How do you dose the iron and manganese? Which products are you using?

I've started adding ATI manganese to my make up water for water changes and use an auto water exchange and have started dosing KZ iron at a very small dose, well below the KZ recommended levels. These are recent changes in my system, so just curious how you're doing it. Thanks!

just for the MAG level
It’s not magnesium, it’s manganese. I did an ICP test and based on the recommendation of what should be added to my water volume, I started with that and then did trial/error until I got the results I wanted. There is no hobby grade test that you can do for MN as far as I know. I use a DIY form of Mn but 2 little fishies makes an iron/Mn supplement and it has guidance on how much to dose.

See my reply above. Used ICP as a starting point and then a little trial and error. Iron and Mn get used up really quickly so I don’t think you can overdose it that easily. I do a once a week dose and it seems to give the gonis what they need.
