Hey guys

I'm new to all this and literally got two clown fishes and this coral today from a lady that's going through a divorce.

I need help to identify if this coral is even alive, what it is? And I'm going to assume the black spots are not suppose to be there.

Luckily I have a QT tank setup with the fish in there. But I am hesitant to introduce this coral. I'd obviously dip it in some CoralRX and try to remove it off the rock because I don't need or wants the rock since it's pretty dirty.

Nepthea coral.
How long have the clowns been together? I think they might get divorced too. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

It looks like a Dendronephthya is a genus of soft corals in the family Nephtheidae. it’s known as carnation. As I know is no photosynthetic coral, not 100% sure. I don’t think it’s dying but it’s not happy either… some of those like low temp water (75-76)

Ah, thank you for this. Is it just white in color?

My temp is at 78, so its definitely not happy. I bought some Reef Roids, and Reef Energy Plus so I can feed it ASAP. All comes tomorrow though... hopefully it will survive one day. I'll give it a try and see if I can revive it.

Also not sure where I could put it in my display tank where its medium to high flow, and low light...

Not Dendronephthya; notice the polyp and branching structures, and lack of visible sclerites. Notice how it is also bleached; Dendronephthya are azooxanthellate

I ended just throwing it out because it started to disintegrate... and I suspect it was dying or dead.
