Hi I recently set up a 60gal with two clownfish but I fear I may have started too soon with target light settings. I have two AI 16HD and the tank dimensions are 36x19x21.7. No corals yet. Algae has started quickly. Green and brown over the substrate and rock. Light settings were put to
UV 80
V 90
RY 100
B 100
G 60
DR 40
ML 30
CW 30
Based on advice. Now I realize I should probably have ramped up slowly and question my target settings as well. After getting the algae I added astrea snails and hermit crabs again under Psf recommendation. Tank has been set up for two months. Parameters - Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrates 10. PH 8.2, salinity 1.025. Temp 76.3.
Any advice on if I should ramp down the light settings and what my targets should be without corals yet? Thanks

I run 7 16hds on 2 seperate systems.
I have had good results with:
UV, V,RB,B 100%
The rest at 50%.
1 hr ramp up/down with 10 hrs at peak.
Your settings are fine. Just reduce time to 6hrs to start and ramp up as the uglies dissapear.

I should have mentioned my run time is 6 hrs yes …so just take a wait and see approach to the uglies…

I did but I only see folks standing in front of tanks full of corals? Are there more than the handful I see as I scroll down?
Maybe you’re missing it. Click on a photo with a tank similar to yours in terms of size. Takes you to another page with what lights they are using and you can download their schedules.

Also check out World Wide Corals. They have some downloadable lighting schedules.

If you have no coral and don’t plan on adding any light demanding coral in the near future then yes, definitely decrease your light intensity.

Your intuition on AI presets mentioned is correct, they are lighting established tanks.

Make a decision on your photoperiod first, then set a starting intensity. My suggestion is below.

UV 30
V 30
RY 30
B 30
G 0
DR 5
ML Optional, I don’t use
CW 5

Increase gradually whilst observing and managing algae growth. You can do this manually or by using the acclimation function. I do it manually.

Your target will depend on the corals you want to keep. This is where the presets can come in handy as a guide or chosen endpoint but you’ll need to factor in the size and depth of those tanks and the number and height setting of AI pucks used in relation to yours and make the relative adjustments.
