Tired of trying to dial in my second hand octopus skimmer without a dc pump. It’s like 21 inches tall and I use a 2 inch stand. It leaves me with 1 inch of room to the top of the stand.

Andddd every now and again after I dump out the collection, the thing goes crazy and sprays. My water column height is roughly 8-9 inches.

TLDR my stand height is poor and I need something that won’t be an issue based on water height and need for stand?

I have a 90 gal heavy load

Check out the Tunze DOC 9415 or 9430. Not sure if it'll fit, but they seem on the shorter side. However, talking with @toi_ss, there is a 60% reduction factor when used for a mixed reef (with moderate stocking). So that needs to be taken into account when sizing with this series (did a shout out in case I got this wrong).

I saw that 9430 was the best option that I could find but wanted to see if any reefers had a similar experience.

60% reduction should still mostly get me covered for a 90 with heavy load I think?!

Well, looking at the specs, it states 800g fish only and 240g heavily stocked corals/fish. The 9415 states 400/120. I think you'd be fine with the 15. Overskimming is a concern......

Also, with the 15, there's a 2.8 inch headroom requirement to remove the collection cup.....With the 30, it may not fit......

That’s fair, guess I’ll have to decide between if the 9410 is enough or if I need 9415
Assuming you have a 25 ish gallon sump, the 9415 would be the way to go if your heavily stocked. It's a very quiet skimmer and only needs 3 inches of head room to take the skimmer cup out.

It says 4 to 8 inches of water. My sump sits at 7.5-8.5inches. So with a 1-2 inch stand it should be golden?

Aka I can dial it down at 7 inches of water? Or do I need to find the right height aka 5 inches of water potentially. Because then the room is gone pretty quick

24 inches - ( 17 + 3 ) = 4 - 2 inch stand = 2 more inches of wiggle room max.

Yeah i'm sure that would work. I would try 6 inches water depth.
