I have algae in my tank which I cannot seem to ID. It is spreading despite scrubbing with peroxide. At first I thought it was bryopsis, but it doesn't have the typical feathered plumes. The close ups are taken with a microscope camera and appear more red than they look with the naked eye (picture of rock with mushroom). Does anyone know what it is and how I can treat it? Peroxide is not doing the job as efficiently as I would like it to. WIN_20231121_18_56_32_Pro.jpg 20231120_191756.jpg 20231120_191758.jpg 20231120_194412.jpg

Looks like a mix of GHA, maybe Bryopsis, and turf.

What are your nutrient levels? Algae will thrive in low or depleted phosphate levels and outcompete your microbiology and corals. You have to dose up enough to where the microorganisms can kick into gear and there’s enough left over for the corals. Otherwise the algae will continue to outcompete everything because there’s very little competition.

On the flip side, if you’re over like 0.3, 0.4, etc…the algae can use the excess PO4 to thrive and grow.

I dose 0.21ppm of phos split up over three doses, daily. Phos doesn't stick around in my system. I'm not sure it is turf or gha. I have astrea and RBT snails. None of them will touch it. I have GHA on another rock and it looks and moves completely different than this. I had some bryopsis in the system and nuked it with peroxide. It had the clear fern like appearance visible with the naked eye. This stuff does not, and under the microscope it looks like a the tail of a long haired cat. It is quick to grow.
