My reef is my Valentine!!! How much you love your reef?

It is the week of Valentine’s Day so let’s talk about love and reefing!!! Specifically, today let’s talk about how much you love your reef. For some everything revolves around their reef, for others it gets secondary interests, and there is a broad range of perspectives in between. Maybe your thoughts swing wildly or maybe your focus changes seasonally. Is yours a love/hate relationship with your reef? Let us know how you feel in the discussion that follows!

I loved it truly and it brought me delight, but this hobby has dark times.

I've lost all my torches and a lot of my euphilyia to suspected BJD. My only saving hope is SPS are looking and growing well.

You can follow all the rules, put your heart and soul into it and do everything 'right', but it will still randomly strike you down.

It's tough.

Edit: I'm also thankful my fish are all healthy, only losses thus far have been in QT.

Im obsessed. I think about it constantly. Fortunately my wife has gotten over the initial sticker shock and is excited since we can add livestock now. Its "our" tank now. Do i care for all of the stuff she wants to put in the tank? Nope. Am i going to add it anyway? Absolutely. The more invested she is in the tank the better.

Not to be dramatic, but I would die for all of my fish, corals, inverts, and shrimp! They're all super cute and have their own unique personalities. People like to argue that fish are "easy" pets to take care of, but the reality is if you're working hard at taking care of them and making their happiness a priority, you're doing it right, and it's nothing to take lightly.

i cant think

My reefs are generally my priority and Centre of my life. Absolutely love them and if I could, I would happily have palentines with them.
Even at night when I can’t sleep I’m often on here, just watching my tank whilst reading threads. And who knew how intriguing our pieces of the ocean were?
My corals alone in my nano are surprisingly active and colourful at night.

I love my reef, but it is not my priority in life. That is reserved for my Saviour Jesus Christ and then my family. I love my reef in the same way as I love my garden and my motorcycle. It is an amazing hobby that gives me a lot of satisfaction and I am thankful for it.

Tomorrow I am going to take my wife out for dinner. That will probably cost between $100.00 and $150.00 depending on wine and lobster options?

I am also getting an order from a Vendor that had a sale last week. I won't say how much more that order cost me but I could have taken her to dinner twice. and still had money for a huge tip. :)

Let's see, soon after buying this new tank and equipment I informed the kids I'm spending their inheritance on my tank. Sure, this DT is only 5 months old but it already has a place in my heart that my 125 had 10 years ago.
TSA got me again with their valentine's special, but that's Thursday's fun.
Tomorrow I'll be hanging out with the 3 Amigos who are still in QT.

love the hobby, but it’s gotten a bit overwhelming to keep up with ALK consumption. definitely a priority and slowly become the center of my life keeping up with the ALK…lol

i went from enjoying the view to constantly tinkering with dosing/testing.

Is it wrong to say my reef is kinda like my mistress: I spend way too much time and money on it, and I do things with it behind my wife's back.
I felt this post lol. A few weeks ago my wife had asked how my trip to the "fish store" was. I figured she just knew i frequented the place in my spare time. Turned out my credit card recipts were being sent to the family email.

I’m sure that describes many of us, myself included. On the plus side I’d assume your wife prefers your tank be your mistress instead of another woman.

My wife is cool, She understands that I have a 'Special thing' with my reef tank the same way she has a special thing with her cellphone. The only difference is I don't hide in the bathroom whispering to the tank, I wonder what that's all about?:thinking-face:
