Not sure if you've settled on the naoko, but those boys are sure fickle for me. Tried 3, lost 3, won't try one again.
That sucks.. I haven’t made it down there yet to check them out! Had a busy weekend as we through a huge graduation party for my step daughter! Off to Colorado state she goes.. btw, thanks for the heads up..

So should i just use the 100g stock tank for the sump? can keep moar rock and have a fuge set up in a 40b pumping into the stock tank.
This is exactly what I did. Watch those heaters though. I attached mine to a lexan sheet so they can't get near the stock tank walls. That stuff may feel strong, but it melts reeeeeeeal easy

Do you have any compartments in it or is it all together (return, skimmer, fuge return etc)?

No compartments, unless you count the way the rock is positioned. I use it as a breakwater before the pump. Rock pile acts as a fuge, UV draws in before the rock, lets out near the skimmer intake so it eats up all the things the uv murders.

I'm not good at this game. They have to be soft or meaty in order for me to be able to play lol

Poll: how many of you put egg crate at the bottom of your tank before adding sand and scape? I've gone back and forth with this in my mind. Would love to hear some people reasons for or reasons they didn't. Ready. Set. Go.

I’ve never done it personally.. I’d guess people use it place to help like starboard. It would most likely cause problems with sand living wrasse and possibly a goby.. i feel it would create dead zones in the sand bed since there’s zero flow but I could be way off base lol..

I did this to keep my sand 'mostly' in place and to provide an extra layer of protection for the bottom glass... Rock on eggcrate > Rock on bare glass any day
