The dream tank is a 96x48x18 acrylic that will be bathed in light and flow.
I've learned so much from this forum, and especially people in this thread, and it will all go into that one tank I'm building.
Until they stop making bulbs for them. I have the two pendants, and a 72" 3MH 4x36" T5 hybrid to put over the 96, as well as 8 Noopsyches (Thanks Frank!)A nice 360! Curious as to why you’re going so shallow? I have good suspicions but do not like making assumptions.
Will you be sticking with MH?
I have temp sensors in the fixture that will shut it off if it gets too hot. I could see HOW it could happen, I'm not letting it.
I do follow the metal halide thread, and I've tuned accordingly, my Icecaps are no longer stock, especially since I have electrical engineers at work who love to help me on my side projects as a way of passing time in the slow months

Shallow because I don't want to have to swim through the tank, also because it makes flow easier to handle.
This is the Tidepool tank I keep talking about. It will raise and lower the water level throughout the day, as well as change flow patterns for high, rising, low, and falling tides.
ut oh ...
last show i went to, about 2015 ,was only to see Joy...I’m a big fan of MH aka a metal halide head! What wattage are the pendants and 72” fixture?
I scored some new M80 ballasts off of eBay for other people about 2 weeks ago. ReefBrite (Tulio) is still doing a decent business with the halides.
Check your inbox for about the best deal available on new fixtures including ballasts.
Doesn't help that file size and image upload has increased exponentially since '20.The servers were horrible when I left in ‘20. They were supposedly upgrading them right when I left. Come back to find they’re still horrible. If they did do the upgrades then it appears their upgrades were not so smart or good.
Everything is 150w for the time being, using the modified IceCap ballasts. Because there will be a lot of light, it's not PAR that concerns me so much as spectrum and coverage.
I've been watching the thread you're thinking about for about a month now. I'm probably going a very different route though, backing down to 10,000k or 6500k spectrum in the Halides to favor growth, and using the LEDs for color.
I had read all that years before. But yes, I did click through for a reminder of why certain bulbs act the way they do driven by certain ballasts, which he goes into in moderate detail.Sounds like a thought out plan.
Did you happen to click on any of the links, in that thread, I provided to Sanjay’s extensive testing and results of MH?

I'm more driven by Dana Riddle's research and notes. That man brought up topics decades ago where people are just now realizing the effects and the possibilities.
No need to apologize... VERY few people know how long I've been in the hobby. I think Frank has guessed at it once or twice. So true!
Apologies for mentioning things you’re aware of already. I’m not familiar with your age or reefing history but have a much better understanding now.

My reefing history and the knowledge I've gained definitely do not match up though.
