Lots of mixed info on if it's ultimately harmful or not. If you try it, good flow, good fine filter media to pull everything. Most reports of people having issues that didn't potentially overdose or dose too quickly (or bottom out their phos) seem to have issues with their clams.

I messed with it in the 90 and had no loss problems, but ultimately decided my tank was happy where it was and I didn't feel like chasing numbers anyway.

Good Moring.....coffee is making and it is raining here... Gonna rain for 3 days..so inside work then to do.. finish baseboards and work on tank stuff..

gonna raise the 3 (1 1/2) pipe drains (intakes) to the sump 4 inches. Building a addition to that chamber. Should be all nice and dry built it yesterday. It will have a top and enclose this 1st and second chambers making things quite .This was I can raise the sump level by 1 to 2 inches and take out the 4 filter cups . Building a rack to add to where the filter cups were so I can use this 1 inch foam blocks and put felt over them to increase water flow and make things easy to clean. for example just change the felt out every few days. The filter cups reduce flow when the filter floss get dirty and backs up in about 2 days. The foam blocks are very porous, foam block will lay horizontal (5"x24"x1") and then I can put felt over it. (I am not buying those roller mats things) this is my solution to those for less money..

Are you planning on using any particular kind of foam? The reason I ask is because the idea that all sponges are created equally or “a sponge is a sponge” is not necessarily accurate. For more info on this see the link below. I have been a customer of their’s for quite a number of years using their foam in FX4’s, FX5’s and FX6’s throughout the time on various FW and FW planted tanks. Many of the top FW planted folks I know also use it. Additionally, I’m big on supporting local and/or small private businesses. Maybe you’re already familiar and, if so, fantastic!
