Its been almost 2.5 years since I last had a reef aquarium setup, Im very excited to start building another one finally!

I have been planning to build one for while now, and I bit the bullet, decided to buy a Xmas present for myself so I just ordered a tank and stand that should be here in a few days.
So I decided to start a build thread !

80gal edge rimless Seapora
(48×24×16) shallow lagoon

Sump: To be decided... maybe a used trigger systems I have my eye on or a 29-40 breeder sump w/ DIY baffles.

I have most of my equipment from my old reef that I will be using.

Return: old mag drive 1200 or I may get a Ecotech vectra 2

Skimmer: Super Reef Octopus Xp1000sss cone

Heater: 2x Jager/Ehiem

Thermostat: considering Inkbird

Controller/monitor: Reefkeeper lite+

Calcium reactor: Korallin c1502 w 10lb tank + aquarium plants carbon doser
Considering feed options- used masterflex or kamoer.

Kalkwasser reactor: Precision Marine

ATO: Tunze 3155 osmolator
Reservoir: 20gal brute tote OR I may pick up a smaller 10-15gal aquarium.

Display water movement: 2x Vortech MP40
1× old modded Tunze 6101 turbelle w/ single controller. upgraded 24v fuse, 6201 wider nozzle/suction housing.

Im still in the air about lighting, I have a 48" Hamilton 2x250wDE MH+ t5 fixture that I might use? or at least startout with for the first few months.

I am also considering tracking down a used 6-8 bulb ATI t5 fixture
I can get a sweet deal on some g4xr30s so might do those +t5 and possibly Orphek LED strips as well. Hmm.

I am assembling a QT tank tonight I have already bought:

10 gallon aquarium
Brightwell Aqua Microbacter 7
Seachem Ammonia badge
Colbalt 50w heater.
Penguin 150 biowheel
1 liter Precycled Siporax biomedia (fishless)
100g chloroquine phosphate

I will be doing chloroquine phosphate, following General cure treatment with a 7 day break as well as a sterile transfer inbetween treatments finally a 20+ day period w/o medication for conditioning and observation.

Projected Fish list:
3x Chalk bass
1× molly miller blenny
1x hectors goby
3× yellow clown gobies
1× mystery wrasse
2x springeri damsels
1× white tail bristletooth tang

Possibly a few more, maybe a trio of anthias.

I will be updating this often, hopefully will have it at least plumbed and running by the 1st of the year! Thats my goal anyway.

Stay tuned!

Looking forward to seeing it come together. I have same tank footprint (older deep blue edge 80). I did an 8 bulb t5 and removed center 2 bulbs and replaced with an Orphek OR120 UV and Orphek OR120 Blue.

I did this same idea. 8 bulb t5 and removed the middle 4 bulbs and mounted 4 AI primes. And reefbrites to the outside edges.

i have the same footprint deep blue brand 80 gallon tank.

Sfiligoi stealth series 10x54w T5

Crazy bright !

After a few test runs, I think I burnt one of the very old bulbs out, I hope... considering I basically just bought a ten year old "Ferrari of reef lighting fixtures" lol. Sfiligoi 's plasma arc hybrid and t5/led fixtures are uber nice but, at 48" fixtures starting at 3k, no thanks! lol
I got this for a steal compared to that!

I hope its just a bulb burnt out, if it is a bigger issue, I plan on retrofitting in several Orphek LED bars in the fixture anyways for the shimmer I cant live without.
Cant wait to see what it looks like when it doesn't have 2 yr old bulbs in it!

I've got the deep blue tank of the same size. They are great tanks. I love how much depth it has and how much you cab do with your scape. That being said I find it hard to decide on placement. If you ever need any help or ideas hmu

Thanks! part of me is thinking about doing some isolated coral bommies with driftwood coming out above the water for tillandsia plants

Its going to be a challenge to adapt to a shorter tank scape wise as this will be my first shallow reef

Thanks for the good wishes!

Added two chalk bass (my favorite underrated reef fish) to QT, eating well and clean so far, will add a third tomorrow then after I observe healthy eating behaviors for 72 hrs I will start my prophylactic CP treatment.

That is one heck of a lamp, and anyone in the SPS game should be well aware of the quality. You absolutely scored, and that lamp will stand the test of time :)

Wow,
I did not know that a separate controller exists, this is promising, the support would be difficult, but I am certain you could figure it out. That does not seem to me too expensive, given what it will allow for. Not a fan of dimming t5, but if you add the LED into the mix, could be worth while. Although, 2 LED bars from Orphek on timers would accomplish same thing for less. Is there on board programming for the current t5's, or is it an on/off deal? 10 bulbs is quite a bit over that footprint, and it is shallow, lol, you going to light that tank up!!!
