I'm preparing to finalize my mixing station to handle mixing on my own so that I can better control my params moving forward. I'll be using Fritz blue box.

I have some questions and I'm hoping to get some opinions and guidance!

  1. Will the salt I've chosen hold in a bin for a week or more or do I need to only make enough for WCs?
  2. If Fritz blue won't hold, are there any that will or does dkh and other precipitate out in all mixes after time?
  3. Is there anything special I need to do to move my tank over to new water or can I just slowly change it with regular WCs? I ask primarily because my LFS water seems to be a bit lower on params than I would like.
Some quick details:

20G tank (IM Nuvo 20)
Typically doing 2G WCs weekly currently, probably need to do larger to keep params up on LFS water

Params from tonight's test (WC was two days ago)
  • Salinity: 1.025 (Electronic test and refrac)
  • Ammonia: 0 (Red Sea)
  • Nitrate: 0 (Red Sea)
  • PH: 8.3-8.7 (electronic test and strip)
  • Alk: 6 dkh (tested twice, Red Sea)
  • Calc: 355 (Red Sea)
  • Temp: 78
  • Phos: .015 (Red Sea)
Edit to add more:
Tank is about 7 weeks old
Mixed reef planned but currently softies (zoas, mushrooms), euphyillia (hammers and torches), candy cane, trumpet, and a couple Favia frags. Also some rock flower nems.
Fritz was recommended by 2 LFS but definitely open to other suggestions for my situation/livestock.

Should be fine. Once mixed, i run the pump for 10-15min a day unless I don’t :) I do always check/adjust salinity before every use.
