I am planning out my saltwater mixing station and I would love to have it in the garage due to the location near my tank and the size of my storage bins. My question is, does anyone in East TN have their mixing station in a garage and if so, are the garage doors insulated? Mine is not and it would be around $1,500 to have someone come in and insulate them. If you do, are your doors insulated? What kind of temperature swings do you have?

Thanks in advance.

I live in Charlotte NC and have two brute trashcans in my garage to hold RO/DI and saltwater. I haven't had any issues in the summer or winter.

No, it gets pretty hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I keep a powerhead in the tanks to keep the water moving and when I go to do a water change I will move the water to a brute on wheels and let it sit inside for an hour or two.

I keep mine in the garage with uninsulated doors with no problems. In the winter, it can get below 40F. The night before a water change, I put a few heaters in the can and let them run all night. By the morning, it is at the correct temp. In the summer, if the water is too warm, I put ice packs in the night before. I run a long hose from the garage to the tank and refill.

I have mine in our laundry room, that is separated from the garage by a non-insulated wall. In the winter it gets down to low 50's. A small 100 watt heater usually is all I need to get the temp up. A friend of mine came up with a great idea to keep the water temps up, he has ~100' of RO line coiled in his RO container and a heater running. In the summer, I think the highest my water has gotten is 75.......

Thanks a bunch for your input. I think I will try in my garage as I bought two 40 gallon tanks for my water storage. Pretty heavy to have them side-by-side on the second story.

At most, you may need a heater in it, but I don't see any big problems with mixing in the garage.
