Hi Everyone,
I have been battling Dinos in my tank. I plan to increase my nutrients in my tank. I have Neophos and Neonitro. Brightwell recommends adding Microbacter7 with these products. Why do they recommend Micorbacter7 in conjunction? Can I still not add MB7 and have the same results ?
Thanks

what are your phosphate and nitrate numbers? Zero? if so then that's why

Need to get your numbers higher than 0 nitrates and 0 phosphates...

I'm an 'overfeeder' but admitting is first step ... right? lol ... can't imagine numbers that low as I struggle to get my numbers down...

After retrospecting my methods, I have some learning from why I got dinos
1. Less bio load. I have just 1 fish which can’t consume too much food. Hence producing waste is difficult
2. Not feeding everyday. I fed every other day but that contributed to less nutrients
3. Weekly water changes routine. Thought weekly water changes are important without assessing the nutrient level which resulted in 0 nutrients. It’s better to first maintain a certain nutrient level before doing a WC
4. Recently added Xenia coral and Dino exploded like crazy. I think nitrates were consumed pretty fast.

Is there only 1 fish & 1 Xenia in whole tank? No corals or anything else alive (but dinos)?

IF so, then Neophos and Neonitro...

FYI I spot feed with long thin squirter all my corals 1x daily either Red Sea AB+ or Reef Nutition Phyto Feast (or mix those together... and sometimes I add in Oyster Feast which fish will try to steal eggs)

FYI 2: I've heard Xenia do not need fed (photosynthetic only) but mine are growing crazy and attribute that to feeding. IMO their pulsing seems enhanced filter feeding (so I feed a puff when everything else gets direct puff from squirter)

No I have many other corals including LPS and soft corals. Gsp has gotten irritated since the Dino outbreak. Xenia seems to have died and zoas have closed up. I have turned off reds, green and cool whites in my tank. Hopefully the dinos go away.

Maybe you've already seen this thread:

and end game:

Simplifing it, get your phosphates and nitrates off zero. Don't change anything in your tank - keep everything as stable as possible. Consider UV. Consider refugium with macroalgae and consider reef herbivores.
