So many of you guys who have collected zoas will at one point see the occasional “mysterious” melting of not only an entire colony of a certain strain (but even separate frags of that strain will melt if in the same tank)

Many who have large Zoa strain collections will sometimes report a certain small percentage of colonies/frags are melting at any giving time (always the same strains at the same time irregardless if they have been fragged and are separate colonies)

While all other zoas are fine… to my understanding this phenomenona has not yet been fully understood

I wanted to share a point which may be prevalent to Amy research into this disease / phenomena

25+ head strat colony melted slowly over the course of 3 months

Tried dips in iodine to save but didn’t work

Finally when only 4 polyps were left , I dipped one last time in iodine and re-fragged those 4 - half melted polyps

Then put those into a different frag tank

So far 1 is growing back ….

2 have melted and the last 1 is on its way out but 1 is growing back

In the meantime I have already purchased another strain of strats which are growing out

If this last polyp which finally appears on the mend makes it , it will be curious to see if I can prevent it from melting again (perhaps it is a stress event that causes this melting) and not an actual disease or parasite ?
