I have to leave for work so I’m writing this urgently. I haven’t lost coral in a year. Then all of a sudden 2 torches and now two sps have melted overnight.

what’s going on here?

Parameter change? You never posted your parameters.
Parameters are steady. And I just recently added a doser so I’ve been testing daily.

Ph 8.3
Alk 9
Ca 380 (been having issues getting it above 400)
Mag 1300
No3 3-5ppm
Po4 ~0.1 salifert (I dosed silicates for Dino’s months ago so I can’t use the hanna checker yet

Check your phosphates.
High phosphates could cause something like this?

I should also add that the torches died weeks ago. They were never very healthy to start and I assumed they died from being shaded by dragon soul colony. Didn’t think much of it at the time but it was a quick necrosis.

I think I’m dealing with RTN. I’m doing research right now but any tips or information would be greatly appreciated.

Here’s an updated pic of the orange passion. I pulled it out of the tank and fragged the tip.

You have brown jelly disease which is linked to Arcobacter infection. The current treatment in vogue is either the "KFC dip" for individual corals or tank-wide treatment with either oxolinic acid or ciprofloxacin.

Thank you so much. Lost another coral overnight but was able to get my hands on some cipro today. Dosed at 0.125 mg / L after lights out and plan on repeating this dose every 2 days for a week.

I’ll keep the thread posted.

That was horrible seeing an sps encrusted with BJD.
If the antibiotics don't work please bleach your tank(s) to prevent that strain from spreading.
Cipro has worked good for me in the past but I've only had to treat torch corals, never an SPS. Hope you have a quick and successful turn around.

If you have visible BJD you need to remove infected corals from the tank. BJD develops when corals are under stress and their immune systems collapse allowing the BJD to take over. It kills corals fast 24 to 48 hours and is indicative of a major issue with your tank environment usually water parameters are way off with low nutrients.

I use roughly double that dose (1.25 mg/gallon x 10 days with dosing at lights off). I have dealt with this before and I do not recommend the every other day dosing. Daily dosing for 10 days at lights out is significantly more effective. PM me if you need any further help.

Ok I’m doubling the dose to 1.25mg/gal tonight and will do so for the next 10 nights.

After dosing cipro last night I haven’t lost any corals. So far so good. The bjd ptsd is real though. I have to prepare myself every time I look at the tank.

I think you will be surprised at how quickly things turn around. Unfortunately, Arcobacter is an increasingly common problem, likely secondary to it being endemic in coral suppliers and local fish stores.
