OOOH, this thread has me thinking. Hubs and I saw some blue maximas in the LFS last weekend and he really liked them. I have a 4 bulb T4 combo with LED that are only at 35% over a 75 gal tank so plenty of light. What sort of flow do you all have them in? Do they like lower flow like acans and scolys, or higher amounts like euphyllia? Very high like an SPS?

I have mine in lower to medium flow just enough to move the mantel, not enough to blow the mantle around! Clams do move! They will find a good spot! Start them low and allow them to acclimate to your lighting and move them up slowly overtime!

Hey y’all, I just got myself a 1 1/2 to 2 inch baby Maxima clam. I just got a radion about a Week ago and have the tank on a 6
Week acclimation mode from 15-35%. I had placed it on the sand and then got a small piece of LR I’m which the clam attached to. Since then I have moved it up a little more than halfway on a magnet rock I have. Is this okay placement? It’s looking healthy and not gaping, I have removed it from the tank to spot feed with phytopheast. Color is amazing and hope it lasts. Thanks for any advice guys!

Ps I will post pictures of placement when I get home today.

I would leave the clam in the tank without moving it anymore. You don't need to feed the clam. If you want to feed it then broadcast feed it in the tank. Congrats on the new clam.

Guys I lost my little clam and now my big clam has deataced itself from the rock work, it’s bissel threads look to be gone. And it’s paling out in the mantel what the heck happened? Tanks been stable for months... no big changes other than an explosion of hair algae coving the clams shells? Could that kill a clam?

The mantle in the last couple pics are suspect, could've been pinched mantel but it's hard to tell. Sorry for the loss.

That was just flow on the clam in that pic, I still have that one :/

The larger one could be detaching due to flow. The smaller clams don't have a great track record, did you notice any new shell growth on the little guy?

That's a sign of an unhealthy clam. Typically when I look at clams to buy I look for that new white growth under the mantle. Clams can "look" good because of mantle extension and be gone the next day.
