I have a brand new RSR 350 G2. I very carefully clean the tank glass with a new Flipper Max and the outside glass with a plush new microfiber cloth. Today as I was looking at some new coral I saw what looked like swirl marks on a car's paint on my glass. I tried to wipe it off but it's all over the glass, on some parts more than others, When you shine a flashlight it becomes more noticeable. I can't catch a break. I was so excited to have a new tank since my first gen had some mean scratches and now this. Has anyone else had these issues? My first gen had nothing like this. The tank is one month old and I don't want to go and try to polish the thing and make it worse. What a way to ruin my night. I wonder if the second gen has more sensitive glass. Either way I've been so careful how can it even have happened. It's very hard to capture on camera but imagine swirl marks on a car and that's what I have. It appears to be on the outside glass only. I tried my best at some photos. It looks a lot worse than what I was able to capture.

Unfortunately one tiny grain of sand on a magnetic cleaner can wreak havoc and you never notice until the damage is done. Yes, I speak from experience. :frowning-face:

I’m nearly 100% sure these are on the outside glass. They are in a circular pattern the way I wipe down my glass. Again, my first gen I had for 6 years never had this problem. I even just replaced both felt pads on my Flipper Max cleaner. I’ve taken every action to reduce any scratches on this tank and I don’t know how this could’ve happened.

I had Aqueon tanks for years, nary a scratch …within a week of purchase ALL 4 of my Red Sea tanks have swirls and scratches…
I have absolutely no explanation for it…
My advice: use a metal scraper (esp. along the bottom or substrate) and/or use a felt pad between the magnet & glass….
In any event, I always frequently rinse between glass panes anymore and watch out for sand, et

Yes I have. I found out that the salt on the mag float can create a film! I put a paper towel on the outside of the glass. The red sea glass really gets foggy and stuff otherwise, its a pain to keep clear

These are actual swirl scratches. They aren’t coming off by any means of wiping. I’m at a loss. I ordered cerum oxide and figured I’d try to polish by hand but I’m not hopeful.

I have the same tank. It is 3 months old. I have the same problem as you. And I even have a small line across the glass. It sucks but there is not much you can do.

Just wanted to update this thread. I have resolved the swirls with some elbow grease and the tank is back to looking good but I now have another problem I'm currently trying to work out with Red Sea. When it rains it pours.
What are the scratches on the outside of the tank?

Can you tell me a little bit more about how to fix the scratches.
