I used to sell mariculture but as a vendor they can be a lot of hassle. I always liked them too because you inevitably get some great and unique stuff. I still buy them for myself now and then in order to grow gems but that entire process takes 6-12 months.

Honestly when I get a shipment of wild and mariculture pieces in, it’s like Christmas. It’s honestly my favorite thing in this business lol.

Boom when it comes to mari tenius is there any par plan you have with them?
They remain a puzzle with me,out of maybe 6 i've had success with 1 & i've more or less stopped buying them now.
Last one i left mid/lower, it started to pull some colour but then went stagnant for a few month's so i moved it up higher but no differance.
Just wondering if you consider them better higher or lower par?
I run 7-7,5dkh/No3 - 1ppm/Po4 0.02-0.03 - all other elements i keep close tabs on with icp. My No3 i was running 5 area & have pulled it a bit lower the last few months to see what change for better or worse i would see.

I dont know of any places that are mariculturing spaths. Since they are mainly from aussie land and they dont culture there. I heard they found a spath in the indo area but I haven't seen them culture it yet and it was only 1 color. Sure it was a mariculture?

Any maricultures I put as high as possible under t5 and halides. Especially tenuis, but the nice "colored" tennis are normally stressed out corals photographed under crazy light and also taken with lens filters t ok make the corals look rainbowish. Most of those colors wont ever come out under normal light.
If I dont put them under great light they will fade and turn bland and it takes months to come back from that. If you get them in, put them in high par, they wont stress and should start growing before any color change happens. That's the trick.

You know they don't mariculture bland coral. The stuff they are growing out is pretty nice stuff. The problem we aquarists have is that our tanks are not the same as the ocean so things tend to not look the same as when they first come in. Its reminds me of a picture of Homewrecker that Mike Paletta has there are like two frags just a couple inches apart, but one is in a lighting hot spot with high par and then difference is amazing. These maricultured pieces have wonderful potential but can be very hard to dial in. Also as others have mentioned it usually goes looking awesome for a few days to turning brown for a few months to then getting some of the colors back. With aquaculture more often the frags keep most of their colors and don't brown out too bad since they are already somewhat used to captive parameters, but I have certainly seen people brown out aquacultured pieces too.

Interesting thanks - so treat them the same as i do mari millies & fry as much as possible you reckon.
Almost all the tenius that come here are just that skin pink/no colour variety so its always a gamble whether they are going to do anything anyway which doesn't make it any easier.

High par for sure. In my experience all Mari and wild need high par. I’ve given them as much as 600+.

Cool thanks for that , I've got 4 x xr30 g4pros on 100% over my 5ft tank now & the higher stuff is getting that already with no sign of anything melting, have been wondering about whether i need to strap another on. Maybe they need an extra nudge.

Looks like a prostrata or mille that was placed sideways to how it grew before the culture site mounted it. So the funny fat looking coralites are just new growth that had started sprouting just before the culture site picked it for shipping would be my guess.
But the odd color on that piece makes me think it is going to be a nice one, keep us updated.

The indo spaths they found I believe is an orange and green variety? Does anyone remember for sure or have a link to the article I am remembering? If that's the colors i cant wait for it to get cultured.

I’ve brought in a box of mari stuff. I had a rough beginning with low nutrients and my new foray into led. But, the colors are now starting to come out and growth is starting to really kick in. I have them under 2-ap700 at 93% at 13” at the moment and I’ve steadied my nutrients. I’m thinking my par is extremely high since my foxflame and pearl berry have started to fade in color but all Mari colonies are just fine.

As I continue to read this thread I would like to note one comparison that I have noticed between some of my maricultured peices that I have recently received in my tank (don't have a par meter) t5 + reefbrites on ice cap ballasts. I had split a box of maris a several weeks ago with my good friend. I kept mine frags mid level in my tank, low for the deeps and my robusta is looking nice and vibrant roughly 24" below my lights.
In his tank radion xr30 4g pros he told me he cooks all his mariculture and his robusta bleached completely along with a few other pieces that we split had basically torched and actually lost one or two if I recall.

Has anyone ever bought a box from livestock USA? If so, please provide details in terms of type, size, qty etc. I know they had different package levels, etc.

But just tell us what you chose. And feel free to showoff pics!

The size white edge was just half yesterday. Seems like the green part is receding. Should I be concerned about it?

Cooking corals under T5 vs LED is night and day different. Not many mariculture that will do well going straight under LEDs. Theres a few manufacturers, for example, Orphek.. that make decent farm type lighting with more spread and coverage. Most success with wild or Maris will be under T5 or MH.
