Hello everyone, new here.

It's been 30 years since I was into aquariums. Looking to build a reef tank. Was looking at a Red Sea 350 G2 but after going through all the threads about leaks I'm starting to change my mind. The size is just right so next on the list is the Water Box 110. Basically the same dimensions. I have a reefmat 500 that I scored for 50 bucks but I see that there some modifications that need to be done to the sump?? I do like the configuration of the red sea sump and thought about using it under the water box tank but can find any dimensions for the water box sump to see if the red sea one will fit in the stand. Heard a lot of good things about Innovated Marine set ups too. Looking at the sump the reefmat seems it would be obsolete. Any other good reliable tanks that don't have a bad rap for leaking? My space I'm working with, a 48 long x 20 deep x 20+ high would fit just right. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome to R2R!

Not a supporter that Red Sea tanks are any more prone to leaking, than others.

Found aggressive use of magnetic scrapers in the corners a large contributor.

Enjoy the ride….

I settled on the waterbox 110 after also seeing the Red Sea issues. Too new to the hobby to have a comment on the sump, but it can hold a skimmer, some live rock, and more than enough return pump to meet all the needs I need from it.

The new G2 Red Sea tanks have armored seams while the S - Series have metal frames around them, whether these will help remain to be seen. On the other hand, you should check out Innovative Marine, Waterbox and Cade (Very Expensive but superior quality)

Great. Thanks. Been looking at those. Yes IM is more expensive. Might go to the Water box 110

Great looking aquascape by the way. How many pounds of rock did you buy?

No problem. If you have any specific questions on the system or need any dimensions, fire away.
I'm sure I'll want a refugium compartment. Is there room in the skimmer section to put some reef mesh in to make a separate compartment from the skimmer? Yes if you don't mind what are the outside dimensions of the sump?

Appreciate it. Took a while to break it down, plan it out, build it. Bought 80lbs but probably only used 65.
Yep I was thinking 2 40lb boxes just to have a lot of pieces to choose from

That’s a good looking set up. @JRPYL if you’re not in a rush, I got my 110 during their Black Friday sale. Probably not as low as the one above but they do go on sale every now and then.

You can find most system dimensions here

The skimmer chamber is 15.3” x 13.5”. If you size the skimmer right, I think it’s feasible. This is mine with a Reef Octopus Regal 150-INT inside.

No rush. Was going to check out all the sales that day. Probably make a purchase then. Just narrowing it down. Every set up out there has its plusses and minuses. And everything can be modified. The store by me has a red sed 90gal display been set up for years and the swear by them

I’m not sure if they’ve fixed their issues or not yet, but when I was looking for a tank was right about the time the red seas started having seal failures. That was enough for me to look elsewhere as I have no desire for 83gal of saltwater on my floor.
