Just around the corner can you believe it? Wow what a great year for San Diego Marine Aquarists as we enter into our 2nd year as a local reef club!
Wow been a busy month that’s for sure….. we had a great time at SDMA Beach clean-up Dec 1st 2018 can you believe we collected 89 pounds of trash ranging from the usual ciggy butts to one person found a destroyed lobster trap!
It had rain the day before so beach had been cleaned by rain and high waves But we did catch alot of things left behind by nature. I must say folks are starting to be aware of the need to help keep things cleaned up and do there part. We had 15+ show up to help out even had a local couple stop by and ask if they could join us!
We will be doing this again very soon in 2019!

Kayla Wilson – Conservation of Medicinal Marine Sponges
Bio:
Kayla earned her B.S. in Chemistry from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, where she worked with Professor Larryn Peterson to design and synthesize antibacterial compounds that mimic the natural substrate of the LpxC enzyme. Sailing across the Atlantic on an oceanographic research vessel sparked her interest in marine systems. Kayla is interested in the microbiome of marine sponges and hopes to increase understanding of the chemical signaling between the host sponge and its symbionts. She joined the Moore lab in the Fall of 2017.
