****!! It's like fish prices have doubled in the past year to year and a half. ...or does it just seem that way to me?

About 2 years ago, I bought a 3" blue hippo for $29. Now, a 1" is $50. I bought a 4" Leutennant tang for $34 a couple months ago, now they are about $46.
I priced a powder brown tang today, and was told it was $96 for a 2.5-3" fish!!

There's still a couple fish I want to buy, but the prices are so high, or they can't even get them. None of the stores in town can even get a copperband butterfly, and if they can, the price is sky high. Same goes for a desjardini tang.

Is it the time of year or what? It seems selection and availability are crap now, and prices are skyrocketing.

I know they are running a business, and the local stores are likely still on the same percentage markup. I've talked to some of the people at the stores, and they say availability isn't that good now, which leads me to believe the wholesalers are really gouging the prices and cutting back supply at the same time.

I'm starting to wonder if I will have to just give it a few months to buy what I want, or resort to buying livestock off the net...which I really don't want to have to do.

btw...just a quick rant out of frustration, not really singling out any store, employee or anything. I do feel that the employees have all done a lot to help me any way they can, so I am definitely not criticizing them.

We only have 3 stores here in town, and seems that prices are going up at all of them. If I resort to buying online, since I can't even get some of the fish I want locally (due to their wholesalers' lack of them), would anybody else be interested in going in on the stuff? I am thinking about an order form LiveAquaria, and will be close to the free shipping amount, if not past it.

I'm thinking about a yellow belly hippo tang, desjardini tang, copperband butterfly, and poweder brown... but they don't have powder brown now either. :(

I would be interested in the coming months...
I talked to Eddie and he said would most likely be interested in buying some stuff next week. If he and I, or somebody else decides it's a definite "go" we will probably need to start another thread. I'm pretty sure that I will be buying enough to get free shipping, and delivery on friday. So far, Blue Zoo seems to have the best selection and prices, overall.

If I knew I could find a place with the fish I want, and good prices, I'd probably make a drive to Atlanta or something.

Looks like I will have to mail order, cause the stores here can't even get what I want right now.

Perhaps I will need to visit a cousin of mine in Jacksonville FL soon. :)

There is a store in savannah ga called exotic underworlds. I am personal friends with the guy who runs the store. They have pretty good prices. But with the order size you want and free shipping. Not much reason not to do an Internet purchase.
