this is said until months later their is something ripping chunks out of your coral and you have no clue whats killing it then it hits you in the back of your head omg i left that lil red eyed crab in my tank it must be that. I take no chances with my investments. I vote can the little dude...

I've actually have been trying to track down something eating my polyps for months now. Something fast, secretive, and prefers all of my cool new polyps, most likely a crab. Once I find it, it's off with it's head...as it has cost me money, headaches, and late nights trying to identify and locate it. The thing about it is, it will go weeks without touching my polyps then one day tear through like four frags leaving them mangled.

However, just because something rides into your tank that you didn't pay for does not mean it should he killed. There are several beneficial hitchhikers as well, and if you have had your tank running for several years with no problems and you suddenly spot a crab, snail, or starfish you don't remember putting in there shouldn't necessarily mean instant death to the trespasser. Upon discovery, research should be done to determine if the hitchhiker is problematic.

However, if polyps, coral, and fish have been turning up missing and a pest is discovered immediate action should be taken to remove and/or irradiate the problem. This is just my opinion on my impact on other creatures life and is not gospel or law by all means.

When in doubt - throw it out! It's not worth the chance and potential problems later on... His red eyes are just not sending signals of trust....

please please please don't do that! Please reference the Lionfish situation in florida, the Caulerpa issue in California, and the Toad situation in Australia-Don't introduce non-native pests, especially predatory ones!

On a side note, setup Ahnold and Sparks in their beer mugs today as well.

i understand that complete but from everything i have heard about with crabs with hairy legs have been a negative response. and some of those little buggers are almost impossible to catch once you let them go. I found one once threw him in a cup let him sit for a couple of days and came to the conclusion he couldn't be good so i exed him.

hey, I have a large sump. with lots of live rock, any questionable critters go in there, I beleive in live and let live, but if it is a proven thing you don't want get rid of it, or give it away, if it is questionable, put it in the sump, not much it can hurt there, might even be benifical picking things of the rocks and getting pieces of food up that pass through the filter before they rot,
