So I pulled this rock out of my tank and very carefully drilled 3 holes into it for some frags. I think the frags look much more natural this way instead of epoxy. I had the rock out of the water for probably 45mins. I put the frags in the rock and then both into the water. 20mins later i noticed my blue hornet frags almost all the way out of the hole...the hole was a tight fit to start with. I quickly pushed it back in and left. 2hrs later the same thing. I camped out by the rock waiting to see who's doing this and this is what I found.

I drilled right into this little guys home and he keep pushing my frags out of the rock lol.

Yeah, you need to get rid of that guy. Plenty of people have had problems with those hitch hikers. They will kill fish, so just be careful if you keep him in, but its not recommended.

If you haven't had any problems from it, I don't see a reason to kill it. My belief is only problematic hitch hikers should be killed, we are the ones encroaching on their home.

There's a nearly identical crab sitting in a tupperware container on my kitchen counter, which has been his home for the past two months. For the month before that he was sitting in the rubbermaid tub where he got tossed after finally being ripped from the live rock he was living in. Also in the rubbermaid bin were about a half dozen frag plugs that I pulled from the same crevice, where he had been dragging my roomates corals (rock was in his tank) and munching the corals before going back for more. Roomie lost some REALLY nice stuff because of this guy. I admit he's cool though, so currently he's got a betta thing going on, and whenever I get a tank with a sump, he'll probably get tossed down there along with an overgrown male emerald crab I've named Ahnold Schwollenpecker the Second. Will probably give Arnie a female Emerald and transfer rock down to get cleaned off, and with any luck have them spawn for me.

So yea, I'd strongly encourage you to not keep him in your reef tank, but would also recommend him a lovely bowl/beer mug to reside in-doesn't need heat or water movement, just some pellets every couple of months and an occasional water change.

Good idea to get it out of there, I have lost hundreds of dollars worth of fish to two separate crabs that were huge when I finally found them.

In all fairness, from the crabs perspective they were having hundreds of dollars of fish offered for their perusal so as to achieve their best possible growth for you! It's all about perspectives...:sure:

If it has 'hairy' legs, pointy pinchers, and/or red eyes I say remove it!
Just put him in your sump or refugium. Can't hurt anything there.

this is said until months later their is something ripping chunks out of your coral and you have no clue whats killing it then it hits you in the back of your head omg i left that lil red eyed crab in my tank it must be that. I take no chances with my investments. I vote can the little dude...
