Everywhere I looked, people were saying I should run purple light on my chaeto. Now it seems everyone is saying full spectrum is better. Should I have my A360x refugium light set to purple?

Depending on the kind of macroalgae, the white light may be beneficial. You also miss out on some extra par from running the color at 0. Do you have the spectral controller?

I have Chaetomorpha linum. I do not have the spectral controller. I've just been using the knobs. I'm thinking maybe I should have gotten the "Tuna Sun" for my refugium instead of the "Refugium" light.

Can I just crank the knob all the way clockwise? It doesn't seem to have the same amount of output when I do that to make it white.

Would the Spectral Controller allow me to get more full spectrum light out of it?

Generally higher output will be better than micromanaging the spectrum for growth. I wouldn’t worry about it, there isn’t going to be a huge impact. Yes some spectrums are more efficient, but that is at the same output levels and I have not seen evidence that it’s a dramatic impact either way. More a theoretical thing for our purposes when talking about small potential increases.

Ah you have the refugium model? I think I misunderstood.

I dont see any benefit to running a red/purple fuge light vs a high cri 6500k light. I think people just like the weird pink glow. If you look at or know anything about plants more blue spectrum causes growth red spectrum causes flowering/budding no reason it would be any different under water other than the water "blocking" certain wavelengths of light. I have always run high cri white light on plants be it planted tank, fuge, or terrestrial and get much better growth than when I tried the pink fuge lighting. Now if you want growth and flowering you go blue and red at least for terrestrial plants and no reason that would differ that much in water.

Having already spent hundreds of $$ apparently on the wrong light, what is my best option? Turn the knob to grow/purple?

It annoys me that Kessil slaps the name "Refugium" on a light that is not as good for refugiums.

it is good for refugiums, just not a necessary spend. I love kessil but I can admit it's generally overkill for growing chaeto. I'd set it to whatever light is most pleasing to your eye and adjust the intensity as needed. I use the kessil H80 for my display fuge and leave it on "grow" mode on the dial.

Its not that it isnt good for a fuge. I just dont see why all the lighting/fuge/ats manufacturers jumped on the bandwagon. Kessil really confuses me on this. Kessil made horticulture lighting long before they got into the aquarium game. They know lighting. I am just a guy with a bunch of plants and fish tanks and I had a 75g display fuge on my last system that was very nice. My current fuge is so overgrown with caulerpa and dragons breath that I hate how it looks but function over form on this one I am running a 96 cri 7200k light on it. They may know something I do not but I can speak from experience high cri white light will grow macro better than the pink light. But that a360 will be fine for your cheato.

You should keep it on grow if its the tuna flora.
