Hello all,

Is my Kenya tree just shedding?
I’ve done some major changes this week after neglecting to maintain it for the better part of a year.

Changes that may have contributed to the kenya tree issue.

1. Water change of 5 gallons Monday and 1 gallon changes t,w,t,f total of 9 gallons or roughly 50% of the tank capacity
2. 4 new T5 bulbs
3. new marineland penguin 350 power filter
4. new seaclone skimmer and after a few days the bubbles are finally going away and it is producing a little dark gunk
5. added a bag of chemi pure blue
6. started dosing 2 ml of purple up daily to get coraline on more then just the 2 tiny frags

Thanks in advance...

If it is a finger leather it looks like normal behavior. Give it a minute. Kenya’s are usually on one stock with lots of branches. When the shed they drop branches that establish on other rock work or the sand. They can be a pest if you don’t keep with them. I have to “weed” my tank often.

This is what it looked like a few days ago. It used to have polyps out and when I noticed they weren’t out I snapped this pic and now it’s just a small stub. Looks healthy other then the size. Maybe it is a finger leather. If it comes back to life I will take a better pic and try to get one without all the blue light

You’re welcome.

Ya they kinda look similar (see picture) but definitely are different. Both are beginner corals though.

Kenya trees drop off new “trees” and then they grow where they land. I would never get one as they spread very quickly.

Location itself is an issue . Mid tank is best. They also require good flow and moderate lighting
Give it some gentle bursts with a turkey baster which should perk it up a little
Salinity 1.025
Ph 8.1 - 8.3
Temperature 77-79
Nitrate < .04

How often do they drop their "branches"? Mine dropped two yesterday, and I should probably get them out of the tank now.

I do have a Kenya tree that is shedding . I ended up on this post googling if they shed. My Kenya was bent over for a week. I finally picked it up . Because it is a drag. Still on a plug. I had it about 2 months and it doubled in size. Anyway when I picked it up all the little branches fell off and went all over the tank. It still has a healthy looking stem with what looks like new growth on it . Does this mean new ones will pop up around the tank ? Will this one grow back ?

They drop little fragments which can quickly overtake a tank. I got rid of all with a battle but this is what it ended up doing

Honestly Vetteguy, that looks really good to me! :)
Nope. They emit shoots off their strands and it gets in between my acro, huge birds nest and zoa and chokes them out. I now have them ALL eliminated

LOL, I understand why you didn't want them and removed them, I'm just saying that to me that looked nice. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
