I received a very small kenya tree from my LFS and within a month or so it had at least quadrupled in size. I had it attached with some super glue in a moderate flow area of my tank. One morning I noticed my powerhead (AI Nero 3) wasn't working and I wasn't able to diagnose/ fix until I got home from work and in that time my Kenya tree seems to have just disappeared. Did it just wither away due to the lack of flow? I only have 2 clowns, a tailspot blenny, a few snails and a hermit crab so nearly impossible for anything to have eaten it. Nothing else in the tank suffered any ill effects from the nero being down. Any suggestions? I thought I saw the remnants of it but it has yet to reappear a week later. Sorry, no pictures of before the incident

Did it become detached and get shredded in the powerhead?

I want to say no because I didn't see any remnants of it anywhere, none in my filter floss nor on the sandbed and it was in corner pretty far from it and it won't pick up a mushroom or very small toadstool frags that arent attached to anything. That could have happened since I don't know exactly why the powerhead stopped working and when I took it apart it was making a soft crunching sound in the impeller but I chalked that up to bubble algae since I had scraped some off rocks earlier that day

I have never seen a coral just melt in 1 day, unless were talking acros and RTN.

How big was the kenya?
Approximately 4-5 inches tall, stalk was only maybe 1/4" around. The shredding in the powerhead theory is pretty probable, I just figured I would see some signs of that having happened. It was incredibly happy leading up to it. Would RTN be localized within just one coral? None of my zoa colonies, frogspawn, goni, toadstools, mushroom, acan, gsp were affected in any way. Is there any possibility my large anemone would've eaten it if it was just floating around?

RTN only happens on Acros...
Its the reason why 90% of us do not do SPS unless we know what were really doing.

And my theory is your correct in powerhead either shredding it, or maybe it floated somewhere and you just can't find it.

If a Softie dies to the point it melts, it will foul the water, does your water smell really bad?

Thanks for that info, that's why I'm predominately softies. My water smells normal. It's just a 20 gallon and I have a tiny skimmer that has not been going crazy. I'll do a water change today and blow some water around in hard to see spots and see if it happens to pop out
Thanks
