Hey everyone, about a week ago my female maroon clown started nipping at my male and he was pretty beat up and she continues to do so after several weeks of keeping them separate and reintroducing them. my plan is to bring her back to the LFS and keep just the male. is this a good idea or not?

I have single clowns in 2 different tanks and they seem fine. One I've had over 3 yrs, the other just over 2 yrs. They look happy to me, good community members.

I kept a female maroon alone and she was fine. Well not fine, She was still mean as heck and wanted to own half of a 6ft tank but other than that she was fine.

Just curious, I thought they were male by default. Then when they pair up, the larger becomes female. Or do I have that backwards.

So many moons ago I had an Australian spiked cheek maroon clown in a hundred gallon tank.
She was literally 5 inches and maybe that big around. She lived in the front left corner. She would draw blood. I'm not joking. Absolutely the meanest creature I've ever owned.
Extremely beautiful as well.
When I moved we almost came to blows after an hour!
