I'm making a container to store my Kalk water in. Typical 2-gallon bucket w/ 2-4 tbsp of Kalk.

I'll be using a rigid rod and elevated to not suck up the sludge. Does it need a vent hole? If yes how wide? Like 1/4" hole or something the size of a dime.

TY!!!

I run my ato exactly like this and do not have a vent. The hole for the tubing is just barely bigger than the tubing itself and air enters there. I have a zip ties on the tube one above and one below the lid to keep it at the correct height. If you feel you need one I would think a small one maybe the size of a thumb tack would be sufficient for air to enter when liquid is pumped out as it will be going out slowly.

I have 2 concerns.
  1. Is it ok to have air mixing with the kalk solution
  2. Does the doser need the air to remove sucking pressure
Thanks!
Air is good, you do not want the hole too big for evaporation.

With a vent the doser will pull the liquid. sometimes just a loose top with do for venting.
