Just bought a 2nd hand skimmer in new condition. It seems to be leaking from the neck of the skimmer. Is it broken or can it be adjusted.

I just bought a Maxpect Jump 400 second hand in as new condition. It foamed up well at 1st but has settled down n I've noticed a leaking coming from the neck of the slimmer. Can it be tightened or could it be broken. I'm new to reefing and the guy set it up for me. It was working fine when he left but having problems getting it going again. Seems to be trickling from the white neck area down to the valve n drips from the valve

Is there an O-ring between the two that is pinched or missing?

I haven't taken it apart at all. The leak goes when I let water out of valve but when closed the pressure might be pushing it through. It's as new with spare parts I'm presuming the O ring is there. Can that section be in done? Only the cup comes off

I’m not familiar with that skimmer. I thought it comes off the neck at the white collar. Maybe someone with this skimmer can comment.

Thanks I watched it but no it doesn't disconnect or tighten at that area. It off & on trickles down from underneath that white collar
I'm guessing pressure problem may affect the skimmer & I didn't get it cheap either. It's only tonight set up. I'll see what happens overnight

Can you use a flash to get a better picture? Maybe an arrow pointing to the problem area?

Here's a setup video; it may help isolate the issue.
It's trickling down the right side of the white label to the valve nozzle then dripping. I don't think it's supposed to do that. Hopefully won't affect the skimmer

Maybe take the skimmer out and look inside the nevk for any cracks or the seam where the clear neck joins the white collar. Maybe a little weld-on can fix this.

that's a maxspect jump skimmer. can you draw on the pic with your phone to show exactly where it's leaking?

a trickle shouldn't affect performance but it may be a sign of a larger issue with the seams, or like mentioned a missing or crimped o-ring.

i didn't see a video. can you post one with good lighting. skimmer leaks with o-rings and on seams are a pretty easy fix.

Thanks, it's just a drop now coming off the valve. It doesn't seem to affect the performance luckily so I'll keep it. The guy was nice enough to offer to come over check it out. So far I'm quite happy with it. The cup has cleaned up well 1st night.

I don't think it's a crack. It seems to be dripping off the valve. Sometimes it flows. Atm just a small drip. My white sump light isn't working for some reason so using the chaeto lamp light.

If its the area with the red cap, you can silicone it which can be peeled off later if needed

looks like you're getting good air production. i would lower the level in the skimmer at least an inch if you want to run it dryer. That gunk ring is pretty high on the neck. just a suggestion ;)

I just switched out my SK400 (in case anyone wants another used one!). They’re very effective skimmers when they’re working optimally, but probably require more monitoring and adjustment than other pinwheel types to keep them optimal over the LT.

The panels that house the effluent gate (from knob down to the gate) are not super well sealed, so leaking from the knob can happen; you’ll find down the road that algae will begin to grow inside that strip that houses the skimmer nameplate.

Thankfully the knob itself is very secure in place, so any leaks should be manageable.

Yes it's stopped now . I emailed Maxpect who got back within a day & said to raise it a bit or let out more water as the pressure is too high & it will push through. So must be tested to have that result. I raised it slightly & it's stopped completely now. I'm very happy with it
