Welcome to the Reef2Reef POTM Contest - Photo of the Month

Sponsored by
Avast Marine!

This month's subject -Tank Scape

Deadline to Enter: 31 Jan, 2022 at 11:59 pm (EST)

Looking forward to great shots of your tank scapes! Remember, the photo has to have been taken by you, and the subject has to be in your aquarium.
No watermarks or captions are allowed in the pictures and pictures with watermarks will be disqualified.
A bit of info around your shot,The scape rationale and if tank is already old enough a bit of info on how the scape worked out in coral placement, visbility, flow....

This is a photo contest after all and we're looking for the best photograph. Yes, you can use a post-editing product to better your pictures. In fact, we encourage it.
Few tips:
-shots perpendicular to tank glass and at tank height would give the most realistic perspective. Yet a top down shot or a side or oblique view of the scape also works if you think it looks nicer.
-having tank lights on will make the picture easier to take as well as add some shadows and a 3D feeling
-More depth of field so more of the tank is in focus will help viewers see the scape better.
- making sure glass is clean always goes a long way in providing nicer shots.

As always refer to the multiple photography articles or post any questions you might have on the photography forum for better support. Maybe also post a few pictures for suggestions and critique to improve your shots wile preparing for this months contest as well.

Not many entries here. So gonna enter to bump this.

Even though you cannot see my rock, there is a scape behind it and it is built specifically for nems. There are holes bored into the rocks here and there for feet to reside. There are also short pieces of PVC under the rocks with caps on the end for sand dwelling nems feet. The rock is also placed to provide the mags with a nice strong powerful back and forth mixed with a random down and up burst here or there. All while giving the rest a nice gentle random flow.

There is also about 6" behind the rocks/nems to allow for fish to swim behind there and to allow for it to stay clean back there.

So this is the upper left of my 65 gallon. I’m one that maintains more of a wall look with my scape but thought the warp perspective this shot captured was very unique as I have no idea how it was created. There are plenty of ledges and holes and small caves. Overall I think it’s working pretty well

This is one side of my peninsula tank. I was really wanting that reef shelf look and open concept for the fishes to swim in and out of the rock scape when I first started but now I’m press for space as my corals are colonizing. I like to add more rock but then my fishes may no longer have the swim space and the fishes is what got me in the hobby so I think it’s a no go…There’s a ton of flow so no lps and softies for me. I enjoy watching the fishes swim in and out with all the turbulent flow in the tank. I’m a fan of tangs and angels!

Its been about a year since I added stonies to my scape and now will just see what happens in the next year. Once it fills up some more then the top of my scape will likely not be visible any longer but we shall see.

Happy reefing and can’t wait to see all the pictures on here.

This is mine. Negative space and visual balance has been the focus since the beginning. Open space for swimming, and labyrinth for hidding, at the same time, provide different habitats for sps, lps, nps, zoa and clams.

The aquarium is 4.5*2.5*2.5. It's been up for 1.5 years. I call this aquarium Acropolis. Kind of inspired by the Greek city.

I choose to take this ultrawide angle photo to showcase the depth and the concept of space.

My 210 with approx 180lbs of live rock. Goal was only fish in mind as many hiding spots as possible. Tons of caves and open space around rock front and back. None of my rock is glued or tied all strategically positioned to not get knocked over.

This 120 is designed to be simple! Way overstocked and overfed, with mainly softies and allot of fish, where nitrates and phosphates would not be a critical concern. Also, is why I went with an "old school" wall and Bare Bottom-except for a tad at the front-left, to give the numerous fish their own space.
I also-gasp-use tap water treated with Prime.

I'll play
EDIT: I was trying to enhance depth. That's hard in a 90 gallon tank. I was somewhat successful but it doesn't show well in the picture. The aquascape is a mixture of dry and live rock. It is secured by superglue, marine mortar, and epoxy putty. I considered the "Rule of Thirds" in its design. There are a lot of caves and hiding places, plenty of swimming room, and a lot of space for future coral growth.
