I feel like I can't catch a break right now, but I've got another problem it seems :(

Is this lymphocytis?

My Salon Fairy Wrasse suddenly has a big lump coming out of her gill area.

Aquarium Parameters:
Aquarium type: Reef
Aquarium water volume- 165
Filtration type - socks/floss/SK-900 skimmer
Lighting - Radion XR 15
How long has the aquarium been established? 2 years
Digital image of the whole aquarium under white light

Water quality (be sure to indicate what measurement units you are using, as well as the test kit brand)
Temperature - 78
pH: 8.2
Salinity / specific gravity - 1.026
Ammonia - Not sure
Nitrite - not sure
Nitrate 40
Phosphorus not sure
Copper - no
Other

None of the other fish are exhibiting anything similar. The fairy wrasse seems no worse for the wear.. Still participating and eating.

Looks like the gill is flared up and infected. Was hoping this was mucus but is clearly infected. Fish will have to be moved to a separate treatment tank and treated with Seachem Neoplex or tri-sulfa. Add eration with airstone.
Is it currently eating?

The mass has kind of deflated now.

She is eating fine and is acting completely normal.

If I set up a treatment tank can it just be a rubbermaid with any old airstone and tank water? Does it need to be a certain size? Thanks.

Rubbermaid fine but assure is free of contaminants. Use fresh sea water versus tank water in case of anything foreign and monitor water quality

I haven't yet.. Trying to figure it out.. I have no supplies for quarantining.
I guess I haven't seen flukes do this - but I guess thats a distant possibility. Could also be from an injury. No objection to putting the fish into an antibiotic hospital tank as already mentioned. @Jay Hemdal any ideas?

Masses developing from under a fish's gill cover are typically either a tumor, or goiter. However, those develop slowly over time, (usually weeks) and do not just shrink in size over time.

So - sorry, I can't tell you what might cause a lesion like this to show up and then shrink over a matter of a day or so. Even an infection, (more likely to flare up suddenly) isn't likely to then shrink down just as fast.

Just getting around to going to the store. Any other anti bacterial products that I might be able to pick up at Petco (LFS is closed)?

How about Melafix?

Is this enough to get me going for a hospital tank? Or am I missing some stuff?

melafix is a useless tonic made of Teak tree oil and barely works in freshwater what says salt. Ruby Rally pro, seachem Kanaplex and coppersafe are the nest meds to have on hand

Was looking for a replacement for Neoplex or tri-sulfa that I might find in a big box pet store.

Did you QT the fish? If so - with what? Nice tank BTW

I finally have her in the hospital tank.

The mass seemed to recede a bit, so I was hoping it took care of itself. Unfortunately it hadn't gone down as much as I thought and needs to be treated.

She's still breathing and eating fine, so hopefully the neoplex takes care of it. I'll let you know if it goes away.

The stringy stuff you see is a protective web/slime the wrasse produces. Offer this guy a small deep bowl of sand

A little update on the Salon Fairy Wrasse. She’s two weeks into her neoplex isolation.

It doesn’t really look infected anymore, but there is certainly still some sort of malformation of the gill.

Other than that she’s no worse for the wear.

Should I put her back in the main DT, or keep treating her?

If eating and breathing normal, by all means yes but assure there is no aggression from tankmates up front
